Abstract

A compound of formula (1) or a salt thereof, wherein A is optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted naphthyl, Y is a naphthylene group of formula (1a) or a phenylene group of formula (1b) therein R 1 and R 2 each independently is H, -COOH or -SO 2 OH; Z 1 is optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy or NZ 3 Z 4 ; Z 2 is H, halo, -COOH, SO 2 OH, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, or optionally substituted alkylthio; Z 3 is H or optionally substituted alkyl; and Z 4 is H, optionally substituted alkyl or acyl. R 3 is H, optionally substituted alkyl or acyl; T is H or sulpho; B is C 2-6 -alkylene: and J is a group of formula (1c) wherein R 4 and R 5 each independently is H or optionally substituted alkyl; and R 6 is H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl or acyl. The compound of formula (I), in the form of a salt, especially an ammonium salt, is useful in the preparation of inks for the generation of rapid-fixing, water-fast, black images on plain paper by ink jet printing.
