Abstract
A bib (10), preferably (but not exclusively) for use by adults in drive-in "fast food" establishments, comprises an apron portion (12) to rest against the user's upper front torso, and a forwardly-extending portion (14) integral with the apron portion, characterised in that the forwardly-extending portion has one or more surface formations (15, 18, 19) to support one or more foodstuff items. One of two laterally-located inclined supports is to support a hamburger, and the other of the two laterally-located inclined supports is to support a tub of chips or french fries. The said surface formations can also include a central aperture to locate and hold a beverage cup of inverted conical or frusto-conical shape. <IMAGE>
Description
IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO BIBS
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to bibs.
Bibs for infants are known which have an apron portion to cover the upper front torso, the apron portion being integral with a forwardly-extending, trough-shaped portion to catch food dropped by the infant. In order to facilitate cleaning, the trough-shaped portion has a smoothly graduated curvature in all directions.
According to the present invention there is provided a bib, preferably (but not exclusively) for use by adults in drive-in "fast food" establishments, the bib comprising an apron portion to rest against the user's upper front torso, and a forwardly-extending portion integral with the apron portion, characterised in that the forwardly-extending portion has one or more surface formations to support one or more foodstuff items.
In this specification the term "foodstuff item" refers to a comestible per se and to a container holding a comestible. An example of the former is an article of food such as a hamburger, and examples of the latter include a carton holding chips or french fries or a cup containing a beverage.
Preferably the said surface formations include one or more raised portions to provide one or more inclined supports for foodstuff items. Advantageously the inclined supports are directed upwardly as they extend towards the periphery of the said forwardly-extending portion. Two such inclined supports may be provided adjacent opposite side edges of the forwardly-extending portion. One of said inclined supports may be to support a hamburger, and the other of said inclined supports may be to support a tub of chips or french fries.
Preferably the said surface formations include an aperture to locate and hold a beverage cup (e.g. of inverted conical or frusto-conical shape).
Advantageously the said aperture is located centrally of the forwardly-extending portion.
By way of example, one embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings of which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bib according to the
present invention,
Figure 2 is a side view of the bib shown in Fig 1 when
viewed from the left, and
Figure 3 is a front elevation showing the bib of Figs 1
and 2 in typicall use.
The illustrated bib 10 is preferably (but not exclusively) for use by adults in drive-in "fast food" establishments.
The bib 10 comprises an apron portion 12 to rest against the user's upper front torso, and a forwardly-extending portion 14 integral with the apron portion 12. The apron portion 12 has a pair of upwardly projecting limbs 13 which may be releasably interconnected by a cord, strap or other flexible member (not shown) that in use extends around the neck of the user to permit the bib to be worn. For example, a fabric strip attached by one end to one of the limbs 13 may be provided adjacent its other end with longitXdinally spaced button holes selectively engageable with a button fast with (e.g. formed integrally with) the other limb 13.
The forwardly-extending portion 14 has surface formations 15,18 and 19 to support one or more foodstuff items.
Surface formation 15 is provided by an upstanding ring 16 integral with the remainder of the forwardly-extending portion 14, this ring 16 bounding a central aperture 17.
The features 16,17 are dimensioned and arranged such as to locate and hold a disposable beverage cup 21 of inverted conical or frusto-conical shape (see Fig 3) centrally of the forwardly-extending portion 14.
The surface formations 18,19 comprise raised portions of the forwardly-extending part 14, these raised portions being such as to provide inclined supports for foodstuff items. These inclined supports 18,19 are provided adjacent opposite side edges of the forwardly-extending part 14, and are directed upwardly as they extend towards the periphery of said forwardly-extending part 14. One of said inclined supports (18) is a planar element, e.g. to support a hamburger 22 (Fig 3), and the other of said inclined supports (19) has a raised rim 20 near the edge of forwardly-extending part 14, e.g. for supporting a tub of chips or french fries (see Fig 3) and/or restraining the tub 23 from rolling off part 14.
The bib 10 may be formed as an integral unit (with or without the neckfastening attached to limbs 13) of any suitable material. Examples include plastics material, or less expensive (and hence more readily disposable) paper machee or compressed card or paper. Likewise, the shape of the bib may be other than the specific shape described above with reference tò, and illustrated in, the accompanying drawings. These and other modifications and embodiments within the ambit and scope of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in this art, and the invention is not to be deemed limited to the particular embodiment(s) and/or the modifications hereinbefore described.
