Abstract

A tufting device for a mattress comprises a disc-like member having a central hole or a waisted portion whereby a twine or loop can be secured, the device being of at least two materials of different density, the softer density material being outermost so that twine, tape or loop will sink therein. The materials may be dyed different colours. <IMAGE>

Description

MATTRESS TUFTING DEVICE This invention relates to a mattress tufting device.

It is known that a mattress may be basically manufactured in three finished forms. That is tufted, quilted or flat top.

Each type of finish will affect production costs, but it is generally recognised that a hand tufted finish, sing a hand crafted bow type wool or synthetic yarn tuft is superior.

It is desireable therefor to produce what appears to be a hand crafted finish that whilst being visually attractive, can be speedily and cheaply produced.

According to the present invention this can be achieved, by the use of a shaped disc, which generally will be round with a centre hole for use with taped tufts, and a shaped item having a "waist" for use with twine or a pre tied loop.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example by reference to the accompanying drawing in which; FIGURE 1. Shows the top view of the device, with a decorative edge, to be used in conjunction with a taped tuft which is fitted through the central retaining hole.

FIGURE2. Shows the top view of the device, with a decorative edge, to be used in conjunction with a pre tied loop or twine, a "Waist" effect is required but no central hole.

FIGURE 3. Illustrates the side view, with the two different density materials, which will have a central hole or "Waist" de pending on the choo sen method of affixing in the mattress; FIGURE 4, Is a perspective view of the mattress tufting device before and after being fitted, so that any pressure applied upon the two different density materials causes them to curl upwards, thus giving the appearance of a hand crafted bow type wool or synthetic material made mattress tuft.

By making reference to the drawings, it can be seen that the mattress tufting device when fitted with a taped tuft or similar, can in use not only give it a visually attractive appearance but will also enable th taped tuft or similar to be secure and not liable to be pulled through the mattress covering,as might otherwise be the ce.further more one of the layers may be dyed a colour to make it att.actil In use, but avoiding the cost of having to dye all the material being used.

Claims (8)

  1. !. A mattres tufting device comprising of a round disc of two or more different density materials, with a central hole through which a taped tuft may be passed.
  2. 2. A mattress tufting device as in claim 1, but having a "Waist" and no central hole, being affixed in use by the use of a pre tied loop or similar.
  3. 3. A mattress tufting device as claimed in claim 1 and Claim 2, but having a decorative edge, such as at outer "Daisy" scallop petal.
  4. 4. 8 mattress tufting device as claimed in any preceding claim, the top layer being of a soft material so that in use it will encapsulate the tape tuft head qWen used in mattress construction.
  5. 5. A mattress tufting device as claimed in any preceding claim, but having only one layer of material dyed, thus saving on costs of dyeing the whole device or material used, but achieving the same effect.
  6. 6. A mattress tufting device as claimed in any preceding claim , but of such a size and strength that it will make it impossible to allow the taped tuft to be pulled back through the mattress covering.
  7. 7. A mattress tufting device as claimed in any preceding claim, but of such size and strength that it will make it impossible to allow a pre tied loop or similar to cut through or fray the loop when in use, causing the mattress tufting device to be pulled out through or from the mattress cower ing material.
  8. 8. A mattress tufting device substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
