Abstract

A sign holder comprises an elongate member formed of sheet metal and having a loop 13 disposed at its opposite ends, to receive ties for attaching the holder to a cable or the like. The loops 13 comprise portions of the elongate member which are bent out of the plane of the elongate member and form apertures transverse to its longitudinal axis. The elongate member may be of stainless steel and of channel section with inwardly-directed side walls 11, 12. Apertures 14 may be formed in its base 10 to receive screws as an alternative means of mounting the holder. <IMAGE>

Description

A Sian Holder This invention relates to a sign holder and more particularly but not solely to a sign holder for attaching to cables, pipes or the like.
Cables often need to be identified once they have been installed, therefore various types of sign holder have been proposed which can be attached to the cables and which carry identification marks or codes. One such sign holder comprises an elongate channel-section element which is arranged to receive letters and/or numbers in its channel. The holder is fixed longitudinally along the cable using cable ties or steel bands which are threaded through slots formed at opposite ends of the holder. Alternatively end pieces may be provided which plug into opposite ends of the holder and which are provided with a slot for receiving a cable tie. These sign holders are difficult and time consuming to fit.
We have now devised a sign holder which alleviates the problems with the above-mentioned holders.
In accordance with this invention there is provided a sign holder comprising an elongate member formed from sheet material and having a loop disposed at opposite ends thereof for receiving elements for attaching the holder to a cable or the like, wherein the loops comprise portions of the elongate member which are bent out of the plane of the member and which form apertures directed transverse to its longitudinal axis.
A cable tie can be passed through each aperture without having to thread or bend it through any slots, and without having to deform the holder.
Preferably an aperture is firmed at opposite ends of the elongate member adjacent the loops, which apertures alternatively allow the sign holder to be fixed to a flat surface e.g. using screws.
Preferably the elongate member is channel-section so that identification marks or codes can be slidably mounted in the channel.
Preferably the sign holder is formed from stainless steel.
An embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example only, and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a sign holder in accordance with this invention; FIGURE 2 is a side view of the sign holder of Figure 1; and FIGURE 3 is an end view of the sign holder of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a sign holder comprising an elongate channel-section member formed from a sheet of metal. The channel section member is formed by turning over opposite longitudinal edges of a flat blank so as to form inwardly-directed longitudinal side walls, 11, 12. The base 10 of the member is flat and loops 13 are formed at its opposite ends for fixing the sign holder to cables or the like.
The loops 13 are formed by punching or stamping the base 10 to form portions which are bent out of its plane. The loops 13 define apertures which extend transverse to the longitudinal axis of the base 10. Cable ties can be passed through the apertures to fix the holder longitudinally along a cable or the like.
Circular apertures 14 are formed at opposite ends of the base 10, adjacent the loops 13 and are arranged to receive screws or the like so that the sign holder can alternatively be fixed to a flat surface such as a cabinet.

Claims (5)

1) A sign holder comprising an elongate member formed of sheet material and having a loop disposed at opposite ends thereof for receiving elements for attaching the holder to a cable or the like, wherein the loops comprise portions of the elongate member which are bent out of the plane of the member and which form apertures directed transverse to its longitudinal axis.
2) A sign holder as claimed in claim 1, in which a fixing aperture is formed at opposite ends of the elongate member adjacent said loops.
3) A sign holder as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which said elongate member is channel-section to enable identification markers to be slidably mounted.
4) A sign holder as claimed in any preceding claim, formed of stainless steel.
5) A sign holder substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
