Abstract
A cap that unscrews from a bottle where an unthreaded gap 16 in the thread of the bottle 11 and the cap 10 permit excess pressure to be released whilst still retaining the cap on the bottle. Once the excess pressure has been released the cap can be safely unscrewed. The gap is formed between two axially separated thread portions 12, 13 and 14, 15, the gap being larger in an axial direction than either threaded portion 12, 15 or 13, 14. The threads may have flutes 17, 18 formed therein and the cap and bottle may be provided with a tamper proof element. <IMAGE>
Description
FIZZY DRINK SAFETY CAP.
FIELD OF INVENTION
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO STOPPERS AND CAPS FOR FIZZY DRINK
CONTAINERS.
Summary of the invention
Accordingly to the present invention there is provided a bottle top mechanism that will keep liquid under pressure when the cap is fully screwed onto the threaded part of the bottle or vessel.
Will allow any liquid under pressure to to expel excessive pressure when unscrewing the cap without the danger of the cap blowwing off. The thread on the bottle top is separeted by a narrowing non threaded centre part, the corresponding part of the cap has no thread and is only threaded at the top and the bottom.
When first unscrewing, the tamper proof seal is broken in the conventional method, when the bottom thread of the cap has cleared the bottom thread of the bottle, the top thread of the cap has also cleared the top thread of the bottle. Any excessive pressure is allowed to escape as the top of the cap has cleared the top of the bottle ,the fluted side threads allow excess pressure to escape. The cap is forced up by the pressure and the bottom thread of the cap comes up to the top thread of the bottle preventing the cap from further travel unless unscrewing.
As the non threaded gap is longer than the threaded parts, when the bottom threaded part of the cap is adjacent to the non threaded part of the bottle there is upward and downward play allowing for excessive pressure to release.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING
Figure 1 is a detailed view of the bottle showing a cross sectional drawing of the cap in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a detailed view of the bottle showing a cross sectional drawing of the cap when the bottom thread is clear allowing excess pressure to evacuate.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODINENT.
The bottle top mechanism shown in the drawings include a cap 10 and a threaded bottle 11. the thread on the bottle 12 13 corresponds with the thread on the cap 14 15. When screwed down the seal is sufficient to seal the contents of the bottle . When unscrewing, when thread 15 is clear of thread 12, thread 14 is clear of thread 13. thread 15 is adjacent to the non threaded part of the bottle 16 and restricted from upward movement unless unscrewed. Flutes 17 and 18 allow any excessive pressure to escape.
Claims (4)
1 A fizzy drink safety cap and bottle/vessel comprising a gap
between the threads on both the cap and the corresponding
bottle or vessel facilitating the means for releasing pressure
from a vessel or bottle without fully unscrewing the cap.
2 A fizzy drink safety cap and bottle/vessel as claimed in 1
wherein two threads are separated by a non threaded section
allowing liquid under pressure to escape when the bottom thread
of the cap is clear of the bottom thread of the bottle/vessel.
3 A fizzy drink safety cap and bottle/vessel as claimed in 1 and
2 wherein the cap is prevented from parting from the bottle or
vessel when under excess pressure whereby the bottom thread of
the cap has cleared the bottom thread of the bottle or vessel
and the top thread of the cap has cleared the top thread of the
bottle/vessel allowing excess pressure to escape whilst
preventing the cap from parting from the bottle/vessel by the
bottom thread of the cap coming up against the top thread of
the bottle/vessel.
4 A fizzy drink safety cap and bottle/vessel substantially as
described herein with reference to figure 1 items 10 - 18 of
the accompanying drawing.
