Abstract

Angular bending; twisting wires together. -In a machine for securing the end coil 4 of an upholstery spring to the adjacent coil 5, the end 7 of the spring is bent at about 90‹ by the forward movement of a casing 9, 14 which carries a twisting pinion 10 and surrounds cams 15<1>, 15 on a, driving shaft 1 which swing it about an axis 13 parallel with the shaft, until the pinion engages the end, whereupon the end is coiled round the adjacent coil, and the casing then swung back by the cams. The pinion is rotated by a gapped wheel 18 and is locked by a cam-operated rocking lever 20 after coiling has been effected. The bending is effected by a groove 8 on the part 9 which forms the cover of the casing 14. The rocking lever 20 is mounted on the axis 13 and is normally pressed by a spring 21 against a stop 23 on the casing so that its stud 19 engages and locks the pinion. Just prior to the engagement of the wheel 18 with the pinion 10, the rocking lever is disengaged from the pinion by a cam 24. The spring is mounted on a fixed table 6 and the two end coils held in place by a clip 2.
