Description

1 2263500 A SLIDABLE LOCKING BAR The present invention relates to a
slideable locking bar of the type described in the introduction to claim 1. Such locking bars are mounted on the inside of doors and gates and thus prevent thieves from forcing admission into premises through the door. However, it is a drawback that the locking bar is easily opened from the inside. If an intruder has entered the premises through other openings, e.g. a window, and is suprised, he will probably attempt to escape through a door secured on the inside by a slidable locking bar of the described type. It is the purpose of the present invention to secure a slidable lock- ing bar of the type described so that the slidable bar cannot be released from the inside, thus making the slidable locking bar burglary proof both from the outside and the inside. This is achieved by embodying the sidable locking bar as described in the characterizing part of claim 1.
Claim 2 describes special means by which the two slidable locking bars can be locked in a position in which they are both slid into their mating striker plates. The invention is explained in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which fig. 1 is a perspective view of a slidable locking bar of the type described, fig. 2 shows a slidable locking bar mounted on the iside of a door, where the striker plates are mounted on the door frame, fig. 3 is an illustration similar to that in fig. 2 with the except- J n ion that the striker plates are n-jn-,ed on the wall adjo ing the door frame, - 2 fig. 4 Is a larger scale section of the left-hand part of the slidable locking bar, and fig. 5 shows the slidable locking bar seen in the direction of the arrows 1-1 in fig. 4.
As shown In the drawing a slidable locking bar of the type described consists of a tubular bush 1, which as shown in figs. 2 and 3 is mounted on the Inside of a door 2 by means of mounts 3 with the said bush stretching in approximately the full width of the door. At each end of the bush 1 a cylindrical, solid bar 4 is slidably and turnably mounted. Each bar 4 can be slid into a tubular bush 5 on a striker plate 6 which Is mounted on the door frame, or on the wall adjoining the door frame, by means of mounts 7 provided with screw holes 8.
Near the end of each slidable locking bar a handle is fitted in the shape of a radial pin 9. At each end of the bush 1 and in each bush 5 there is a cut-out which in a front view has the shape of an L on its head. The pin 9 can be slid into either of these cut-outs 10 and turned into a position where the pin 9 is stopped against the mounts 3 or 7. in fig. 4 the pin 9 is shown in a position where it rests against the mount 7. As shown in fig. 4 one of the screw holes 8 is located so that it is covered by the pin 9 in the said position.
As shown In figs. 4 and 5 the tubular part 5 of the striker plate 6 and outside the cut-out 10 a hole 11 is drilled with its centre line parallel with the mount 7. Furthermore, the bar 4 is provided with a drilled hole 12 of the same diameter as the hole 11 and flush with the latter In the said position In which the pin 9 is turned Into the cut- out 10 and has come to rest against the mount 7. The Integrating parts can now be locked In this mutual position, e.g. by Insertion of a not shown padlock through the holes 11 and 12. As at least one of the screws in a screw hole 8 is covered by the pin 9 In this posi- tion, the slidable locking bar is locked from the inside and at the same time difficult to dismantle.
c-- I_ -". 2: MS 1. A slidable locking bar for mounting on a door or gate (2) consisting of a tubular bush (1) to be mounted on the door by means of a mount (3) and stretching over approximately the full length of the door, and at both ends of the said bar a slidable and turnable cylin- drical, solid bar (4) is mounted, which each can be slid Into Its mating tubular bush (5) on a striker plate (6) mounted on the door frame, or on the wall adjoining the door frame, by means of mounts (7) which are provided with screw holes (8) c h a r a c t e r i z e d by the fact that each sliding bar (4) near its end - in a not unknown manner - is embodied with a handle in the shape of a radially protruding pin (9) which can be slid into a cut-out (10), which seen in front view has the shape of an L on its head, and into the bush (5), and thereafter turned to a position in which the pin (9) comes to rest against the mount (7), and that the screw holes (8) are so arranged that the radial pin (9) in the said position covers at least one of the screw holes (8), whereafter there are means which can lock the bare (4) in the said position.
2. Slidable locking bar according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i ze d by the fact that the tubular part (5) of the striker plate (6) outside the cut-out (10) is provided with a drilled through-going hole (11) whose centre line preferably is parallel with the mount (7), and that the locking bar (4) has a hole (12) drilled with the same diameter flush with the hole (11) when In the locking position In which the pin (9) is pushed down into the cut-out (10) and resting against the mount (7).
3. Slideable locking bars as herein described with reference to. and as shown in. the accompanying drawings.
