Abstract

Stripped cores of cable (26) are connected to terminals (30) in the form of conductive hook-and-loop strip (32, 34). A lid (20) hinged on the base of a plug 10 may include one part (34) of the hook-and-loop strip and the base the other part (32). Hooks (also label led 26) on the base locate each outer cable core near its corresponding terminal. <IMAGE>

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an electrical plug.
BACKGROUND OF THE ;-NVEtTie;i Almost since the invention of electricity, man has been striving to provide an electrical plug to which the electrical leads are easily attached and more recently many efforts have been made to eliminate the use of screws for holding the electrical wires.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an electrical plug which is very easy to use and requires a minimun of trouble for the operation of connecting electrical wires.
THE INVENTION According to the invention an electrical plug has poles which are electrically connected to an electrically conductive pair of VELCRO (registered trade mark) strips which are available for receiving the bared ends of electrical wires.
Thus, in its widest aspect the invention provides a very simple operation of opening the two or three pairs of VELCRO strips and locating the bared ends of the wires on the bottommost one of each pair, and then closing the pair with sufficient pressure to ensure a good electrical connection.
The pressure may be provided by a variety of nleans including the lid of the plug itself which may have formations which in the closed or locked position exerts sufficient pressure.
In a particular form of the invention a box is provided behind the poles with a hinged lid which has a snap action closure, The lid is preferably on the bottom of the box so that when the plug is in a wall socket, the lid cannot be opened by children or servants or other persons not familiar with the dangers of electricity. The lid may carry one of the strips of each pair of VELCRO pairs.
EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings where figure 1 is an isometric view of a plug according to the invention with the hinged lid removed, and figure 2 is a side view with portion of the lid in section..
In the drawings a plug 10 includes a first portion 12 which carries the poles 14 and an earth pole 16. A second portion 18 has a hinged lid 20 which includes means for securing the lid in the closed position consisting of an interference snap-on arrangement or any other suitable arrangement such as a ball 22 and socket 24 arrangement.
An electric cable 26 with its ends bared is inserted into the box, a recess 28 serving to accomodate the cable. The live and neutral wire ends are led under hooks 26 (which hold the wires in position pending the final electrical contact and are located on the VELCRO strips 30; mounted above a corrugated contact strips 32. The earth wire end is simultaneously laid on the VELCRO strip 34.
The inside of the lid 18 has the ccmplemental VELCRO strips 34 and when it is snapped closed the pairs of VELCRO strips are pushed together with sufficient pressure to ensure that a good electrical contact is made (the VELCRO strips incorporating conductive material such as copper). The strips 32 are connected electrically to the poles.
Insulating separators 36 are provided to avoid short circuiting.
The VELCRO strips and corrugated contact strips are essential to improve the pressure closure thereof so as to ensure a good electrical contact.
Lugs 38 are provided on each side of the plug to provide a positive grip - with which to pull the plug out of the socket.
