Abstract

Urea of m-aminobenzoyl-m-amino-p-methylbenzoyl-1-naphthylamine-4 : 6 : 8-trisulphonic acid is prepared by condensing m-nitro-p-methylbenzoyl chloride with 1-naphthylamine-4 : 6 : 8-trisulphonate of sodium, reducing the nitro group, condensing the aminomethylbenzoyl compound with m-nitrobenzoyl chloride, again reducing, and finally condensing with phosgene. The sodium salt of the product is purified by extracting from accompanying mineral salts with methyl alcohol, evaporating off the latter, again extracting with methyl alcohol and finally precipitating the product by addition of ethyl alcohol. In an example the condensations with the nitrobenzoyl chlorides are effected in presence of sodium acetate and the reductions with iron and acetic acid. The whole of the operations may be carried out in the same solution; the neutralized solution of the urea is finally evaporated to dryness and purified by solution in methyl alcohol as described above. The product is very soluble in water and has a strong action upon trypanosomes. Specifications 13778/02, 14735/10, 9472/14, 13866/14, 20192/14, 8591/15, and 8592/15 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 20192/14.
