Abstract

The gear lever is of the kind in which the onset of a ratio change is effected by manipulation of the gear lever. The gear lever comprises an elongate main section (12), a handle (13) movable relative to the main section and a Hall Effect sensor switch (50) for sensing the relative movement of the handle. The handle (13) is connected to the main section (12) by spaced apart leaf springs (36, 37) extending longitudinally of the main section. During movement of the handle (13) transverse to the main section (12) the leaf springs (36, 37) flex and constrain the handle (13) to follow a substantially linear path in the gear change direction.
