Abstract

The invention comprises a bed with normal vertical height adjustment onto which is built pivoted to rotate sideways a separate arrangement with profilable sections. A mechanism is included such that when clamped at "A", and in lowering the bed, reaction via cable "B" causes back "C" to pivot about a horizontal axis "D" thus causing the back section to rise and lift the patient from a prone to a sitting position for better alighting from the bed. <IMAGE>

Description

Rotatustabed nf varlakle height. (14.10.88.) Further to Patent 8812?52 application.
Interest in using the rotajustabed exists and a special purpose hospital bed version may be attractive. The version described here is based on the ertically adjustable hospital bed types at present both in use at hospital and in the community and is aimed at reducing nursing staff lifting effort. The invention described here could be the basis of a cheap unit.
In view of the above continuing interest I wish to file a fresh application. Details of the new innovations included in the application are illustrated on the attached figures, (1,2, & 3) and in the Following description.
The bed comprises the normal vertically adjustable platForm onto which is built pivoted to rotate sideways a separate bed arrangement with profitable sections. A mechanism is included such that when clamped at R, and in lowering the bed reaction via cable B causes back C tn pivot about a horizontal axis D thus causing the back: section to rise and lift the patient From a prone to a sitting pcsltlon.
Further understanding of the invention will Follow frcm the novelties listed as follows. These will form the basis of the claims in the final stages of patent application.
1. Method of pivoting, and suspension. This as illustrated in figure 1 enables a Flat pivotal configuration and 90 degrees rotation to the side of the bed.
2. Method of raising back. This is as described above see figure 2.
3. Method of folding under. See figure 3. Once rotated the bottom sections are Folded together as shown and then folded down beneath the seat. This enables the patient to get feet right to the Floor before standing, the vertical adjustability of the bed allowing for differences in leg length of long or short patients.
. A method allowing adjustment For feet down to Floor as mentioned above. This is by adjusting to feet down back up bed best height before clamping A.
S. Method of transmitting lifting force when bed pivoting. Cable B is passed through pivot centre and has freely rotating terminations.

Claims (6)

Claims.
1. An adjustable profile bed as described with sections allowing change in profile from prone to sitting attitude with swivelality to the side for alighting.
2. A bed as described with method of pivoting and suspension that enables a flat pivotal configuration usable on adjustable height beds allowing 98 degrees rotation to the side.
3. R bed as described with a method of getting feet onto floor when in sitting profile essential for comfortable alighting.
. A bed as described with sections that can be folded under so that the bed can be lowered right down For patients when in the sitting/alighting position.
5. A bed as described with a swivel arrangement allowing transmission of back lifting power from mechanism beneath the bed without interfering with swivel pivoting.
6. A bed as described that can be motorised to allow patients control for best profile for comfort and alighting.
