Description
Improvements in and Relating to
Releasable Holders for Receptacles
This invention relates to releasable holders for flexible receptacles such as bags, sacks or the like. The invention is especially, but not exclusively concerned with waste disposal bag holders which can be secured to an interior surface of a vehicle such as a car.
According to the present invention in ope aspect, there is provided a releasable holder for a flexible receptacle such as a bag, sack or like, the holder including a back plate capable of being removably or permanently attached to a generally flat, substantially vertical surface, a support member pivotably mounted on the back plate and movable between a first position in which it lies generally flat against the back plate and a second position in which it lies generally normal to the back plate, and means carried by the support member for selectively clasping material of the receptacle to hold the receptacle with its open end uppermost to receive articles placed therein.
The support member may be mounted on the back plate for pivotable movement about a generally horizontal axis, the member being pivotable between an upright postion in which the support member lies generally flat against the surface of the back plate and a horizontal position in which the support member lies normal to the back plate.
In this arrangement, the means for clasping material of the receptacle preferably comprises a first arm carried by the support member and a second arm carried by the back plate, each arm being displacable and replacable to allow material of the receptacle to be positioned between the back plate, the support member and the respective arm and to be trapped therebetween.
In an alternative construction, two support members are provided, each pivotably mounted on the pack plate for movement about a generally vertical axis. In this arrangement, the means for clasping the material of the receptacle preferably comprises "U" sectional arms which locate about the upper rim of each support member, the individual arms being selectively removable and replacable to enable receptacle material to be trapped between the arms and the support members.
The back plate and support members are preferably manufactured from a plastics material.
In another aspect, the invention provides a releasable holder for a flexible receptacle such as a bag, sack or the like, the holder including a back plate for attachment to a generally flat, vertical surface and a support arm connected to the back plate by a hinge such that it can pivot between a first position in which it lies generally flat against the back plate and a second position in which it lies generally at a right angle to the back plate, a means carried by the support arm by which a flexible receptacle can be supported in a generally upright position with its open end uppermost.
The invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which:
Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of a releasable holder in accordance with the present invention respectively in its open and closed positions; and
Figures 3 and 4 are perspective views of an alternative releasable holder in accordance with the invention respectively in its open and closed postions.
The holder illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a back plate 1 for attachment to a generally flat substantially vertical surface by means of, for example, adhesive pads provided on the rear face of the back plate.
Connected through a hinge to the plate 1 is a 2 in the form of a yoke which can be pivoted about its hing connection between a generally horizontal open position as shown in Figure 1 and a generally vertical closed position as shown in Figure 2.
The back plate 1 includes an arm 3 which locates within a slot formed in the back plate 1 and is connected at one end to the back plate so that it can pivot between positions in which it seats within the slot and in which it extends outwardly away from the back plate. The support member 2 includes an arm 4 similar to arm 3 which seats within a slot set in the uppermost surface of the support member and can pivot about one end to a position in which it is inclined upwardly away from the support member 2.
In use, the back plate 1 is attached to a suitable flat, vertical surface, e.g. the interior surface of a door of a motor vehicle, and the support member 2 moved to the open position shown in Figure 1. The arms 3, 4 are then moved away from their respective slots and the material of a flexible receptacle, e.g. a plastics bag, is positioned between the arms 3, 4 and the back plate 1 and support member 2 respectively. The arms 3, 4 are then returned to their original positions to clasp receptacle member between the arms and the support member and back plate to hold receptacle generally upright with its mouth open to receive waste matter.
The holder illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 is similar to that shown in Figures 1 and 2 in that it includes a back plate 5 which can be secured to a generally flat, substantially vertical surface by, for example, adhesive members provided on the rear face of the back plate. In this arrangement, two support members 6, 7 are provided, each support member being connected through a hinge to the back plate for pivotable movement about a generally vertical axis. The support member can move between the position shown in Figure 1 in which they stand generally at right angles to the back plate 5 and the position shown in Figure 2 in which they lie generally flat adjacent to the back plate. The support member 7 is connected to the back plate 5 through a strip 8 so that, when in the closed position shown in Figure 2 the support member 7 lies flat against the outermost face of the support member 6.Clasp arms 9, 10 of "U" section plastics material are positioned one over each upper rim of the support members 6,7.
In use of the holder illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the back plate 5 is attached by the adhesive pads to a suitable generally flat, vertical surface and the support arms 6, 7 moved outwardly away from the back plate 5 to the positions shown in Figure 3. Material of a flexible receptacle, such as a plastics bag, is then placed over the members 6, 7 and retained in place by the clasp arms 9, 10.
The back plates 1, 5, support members 2, 6, 7, and the arms 3, 4, 9, 10 are preferably manufactured from a plastics material.
It will be appreciated that the releasable holders described above are merely exemplary of releasable holders in accordance with the invention and that modifications can readily be made thereto without departing from the true scope of the invention.
