Abstract

A razor holder has a panel (10) with retaining means (16) for holding a razor with its head located by a channel member (12). The blade is re-sharpened by a magnet (14) in the member (12), which lies adjacent the edge of the blade in the razor head. In an alternative embodiment, Fig 4, the panel is moulded with a channel 12 in its outer face for the razor head, and a recess for the magnet 14 in its rear face, closed by an adhesive hanging strip 18. <IMAGE>

Description

A RAZOR HOLDER This invention relates to a razor-holder which restores keenness t'o a razor's cutting edge through the medium of magnetism.
A razor's cutting edge seen under high magnification shows serrations resembling irregular saw-like teeth.
During the shaving process the serrations become bent out of alignment, and, if not corrected, any subsequent use will aggravate the condition which leads to eventual blunting of the blade.
The modern disposable razor has one or more blades integral with the razor head, and these are so positioned and secured that honing or stropping to realign the serrations is not a practical proposition.
But the realignment of the serrations can be effected by utilizing magnetism, without removing any actual metal.
Magnetism is a natural phenomenon having the property pf attraction, and its use for restoring keenness to a razor's cutting edge is a known method for that purpose.
However, earlier apparatus has not been effective enough and has not found favour commercially.
According to the present invention, there is provided a razor holder comprising a panel member, retaining means for holding a razor on the panel, locating means for receiving the head of a razor and a bar magnet on the panel adjacent the locating means, arranged such that the blade of a razor held by the retaining means is juxtaposed to the magnet.
By providing a flat strip permanent magnet, possibly with North and South poles alternating along the length of its face, the magnetic attraction is distributed evenly throughout the magnet's length. Thus, when a razor's cutting edge is brought into close proximity with the magnet itself, the flux---of a determined magnetic field strength---draws the distorted saw-like serrations back into their original positions. By this means a blade's keenness is restored to prolong the effective life of the razor.
To ensure that the razor's cutting edge is properly positioned on the magnet, the magnet may be housed in a channel which is attached horizontally to the razor holder's baseboard.
All materials used in the construction of the holder, with the exception of the magnet, are non-magnetic.
Some specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings which shows the razor-holder in an upright position, and in which: Fig.l shows in perspective the razor-holder in an upright position with a razor at rest when not in use; Fig.2 shows a frontal view ofthe holder; Fig.3 shows a side view of the holder and the position of the self adhesive hanger; and Fig.4 shows an alternative form of holder in vertical section.
Referring to Figs 1 to 3, the holder comprises a baseboard 10, a moulded '[' channel 12 containing a flat permanent magnet strip 14, an open ended pouch-like retainer 16, and an adhesive hanger 18. Items 12,14 and 16 are located at the front of the baseboard 10, while item 18 is located at the top rear of the baseboard 10.
In order to effectively use the magnet's flux field for the purpose of restoring keenness to a razor's cutting edge, it is necessary to place the cutting edge side of the razor's head 11 against the horizontally positioned flat strip magnet 14 in its moulded '[ channel housing 12. Thus the handle of the razor is placed vertically into the pouch-like retainer 16 with the razor head uppermost. The head is ldcated by the channel 12 to keep the blade close to the magnet.
A suitable magnet is one that is constructed from an extruded composite rubber-like or plastic-bonded ferrite material. It would be in the form of a flat strip permanent magnet with North and South poles positioned alternately along one or both faces of its length, or alternately, by providing extended North and South poles on either face. Either arrangement of induced poles would create a field perpendicular to the length and width of the strip, the magnetic attraction is thereby distributed evenly throughout the magnet's length.
A modified form of baseboard 10 is illustrated in Fig.4.
In this case, the channel 12 is moulded into the baseboard, with a recess 20 in the back of the board.
Recess 20 is closed at both ends and houses the magnet 14. The latter is covered by the adhesive hanger 18.
The whole holder is formed integrally of plastics material.
The retainer 16 can be designed to provide a spring force holding the razor in position. The razor is preferably of the disposable plastic type, but could be a conventional, safety razor.
