Abstract
An eye massage device comprises a flexible blind-like belt (1) having a plurality of electrically-connected massage elements (91-96) disposed thereon, which are arranged in accordance with the acupuncture points around the human eyes according to ancient Chinese acupuncture practice, and a low frequency generating source is coupled to the flexible belt by electric wires (12, 13) so that those massage elements not only press those acupuncture points but also further affect the same by low frequency pulses so to promote the blood circulation of the eyes and also relax the tensioned muscles thereat. <IMAGE>
Description
EYE MASSAGE DEVICE
The present invention is directed to an eye massage device for use in relaxing the tensioned muscles around the eyes and stimulating the blood circulation thereof, thus maintaining the occular health effectively.
Eyes are vital to a human being, and have been regarded as the soul of the body. As a result of rapid advance and expansion of human civilisation in recent decades, more and more people are using their eyes every day excessively in reading or working without proper rest, thus easily causing eye ailments, such as myopia, photo phobia, optic atrophy, cataract, without proper notice. These kind of problems have been especially encountered by young children in school, often overusing their eyes in reading books or watching television without proper rest.
To restore the eyesight of those tired eyes regularly is an effective way of prevention of eye ailments. In Chinese acupuncture practice, there are a number of symmetrically located points in the vicinity of the eyes which are effective in relaxing and stimulating the muscles thereof and promoting the blood circulation in the eyes, so it is salubrious to give proper stimulation or massage to the eyes regularly at those acupuncture points. Moreover, proper nutrition is also helpful to the improvement of the eyes, proper massage stimulation and nutrition in combination can take better care of the eyes.
There are a number of disadvantages associated with the massage practice by fingers, such as:
1. Eyes are easily affected as a result of the use of unhygienic hands in massage practice.
2. Eye balls are apt to be hurt by improper exertion of force on the eyes in massage.
3. Long finger nails can easily cause damage to the exterior surface of the eye balls in massage practice.
The invention provides an eye massage device for use in stimulating and relaxing the eye muscles of a human being, which device comprises a flexible blind-like belt having a plurality of symmetrically arranged massage elements on the inner surface of the right and left portions thereof, the massage elements being electrically connected to each other and to a low-frequency generating source for effecting massage, the massage elements projecting from the inner surface through a plurality of correspondingly-shaped openings thereon.
The ends of the flexible massage belt have fastening elements so that the flexible belt can be adjusted to fit different people.
The device provides a safe and hygienic eye massage means so that eye massage exercises can be practiced without the risk of hurting the eye balls, and causing infection of the eyes as a result of exerting improper pressure on eye balls, and using unclean fingers to perform the exercises.
By means of the present massage device, the eyes are able to be relaxedly massaged to make the blood circulate in the eyes in a more healthy manner, thereby relieving the eyes from fatigue and tension due to long periods of working.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a diagram showing the location of human acupuncture points around the eye;
Figure 2 is an elevational diagram showing the arrangement and connection of the protruding massage elements;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of part of an eye massage belt;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the eye massage belt; and
Figure 5 is a view of the belt in use.
Referring to Figure 2 and Figure 3, an eye massage device comprises a flexible blind-like belt 10 having a plurality of symmetrically distributed protruding massage bead-like elements on the left and right portions thereof, the massage elements being indicated by reference numerals 91A, 91B, 92A, 92B, 93A, 93B, 94A, 94B, 95A, 95B, 96A, 96B respectively. All the elements are electrically connected to one another byelectric wires 12 and 13 and further to a low-frequency generating source which produces continuous low-frequency pulses. The pulses are transmitted to the protruding elements by the electric wires 12 and 13 so that acupuncture points can be constantly stimulated thereby.
A plurality of openings or holes are disposed on the inner surface of the blind-like belt 10 from which the massage elements projectingly extend. An adjustable fastener means 14 is attached at the ends of the belt 10 so that the same can be adapted to fit different people.
Referring to Figure 1, a number of ancient Chinese acupuncture points are shown therein, which are widely used to cure or alleviate the eye ailments in acupuncture practice. The acupuncture point 1 (Zanzhu), located at the end of the eyebrow, is related to the cure of watery eye and scleritis; point 2 (Jingming), located inside the eye socket, is stimulated to alleviate the eye ailments such as: acute or chronic conjunctivitis, myopia, hypermetropia, photophobia optic neuritis, retinitis, optic atrophy cataract; point 3 (Sibai), located inside the eye socket, is stimulated to cure ailments of facial hemiplegia, trigeminal neuralgia and eye disease; point 4 (Taiyang), located at the end of the eyebrow and one inch from the corner of the eye, is stimulated to alleviate the ailments of headache and eye disease; point 5 (Sizhukong), located at the end of the eyebrow, is used to cure migraine, facial hemiplegia; point 6 (Yongbai), located one inch below the eyebrow at the middle thereof, is stimulated to cure front headache, eye disease, facial paralysis; point 7 (Tongziliao), near the corner of the eye, is related to the alleviation of the eye ailments of dim vision, leucoma, keratitis, optic atrophy; point 8 (Chengqi), right below the eye ball and above the point 3, is stimulated to heal eye ailments, such as, acute or chronic conjuctivitis, ophthalmoplegia, eyelid twitch, myopia, hypermetropia, nyctalopia and optic atrophy; point 9 (Honyon), is activated to cure dizziness and facial hemiplegia.
Stimulation of those acupuncture points is very effective in the treatment of eye ailments, practiced by ancient Chinese for thousands of years. To benefit people with this ancient medical practice, the flexible blind-like belt has a plurality of massage bead-like elements arranged wherein elements 91A, 91B are designed in cylindrical form, having a round flat top face and used to stimulate acupuncture points 5 (Zizhukong), and similar elements 93A, 93B stimulate the points 6 (Yongbai). The elements 94A, 94B, having an oval shape and a bulging convex smooth surface are used to activate the points 1 (Zanzhu) as well as points 2 (Jingming). The elements 95A, 95B having an oval shape and a flat top surface are designed to press against the acupuncture points 4 (Taiyang) as well as points 7 (Tongziliao). The oval-shaped flat top surfaces of the elements 96A, 96B are located against the points 8 (Chengqi) for effecting massage purpose; the smooth flat surface is designed for maximising the contact area of the massage, and the smooth bulging surface is for the comfort of the wearing of the flexible belt in contact with the nose bridge.
