Description

22127 1 G FRAME STRUCTURE OF SEAT The present invention relates in general
to a seat# and more particularly to a frame structure of the seat.
In order to clarify the task of the present invention, one conventional frame structure of seat will be described with reference to Fig. 1.
The drawing shows a frame structure for a seatback portion of an automotive seat. The frame structure comprises a rectangularly extending pipe 1 which has opposed side portions la and lb. In order to connect the frame structure to another frame structre (not shown) for a seat cushion portion of the seat, a pair of brackets 2A and 2B are employed each being of a flanged panel. The flange of each panel is formed at an upper part of the panel with a recess 4 for receiving a part of the corresponding side portion la or lb of the pipe 1. Each side portion la or lb of the pipe 1 is secured by means of rivets 6 to a major part of the corresponding bracket 2A or 2B. The recessed portion of the flange of each bracket 2A or 2B is welded to the pipe 1. More specifically, as is indicated by the arrow "W", the welding is so made as to extend circumferentially half round the corresponding part of the pipe 1.
However, the frame structure of this type has the following drawback due to its inherent construction.
That is, the flexural rigidity of the welded 1 portions of the pipe 1 is considerably reduced by the heat applied'thereto when the welding is applied in the above-mentioned manner. Thus, when, upon a vehicle collision or the like, a certain load is suddenly applied to an upper part of the pipe 1 in the direction of the arrow "X". it tends to occur that the pipe 1 is bent at the welded portions.
What is desired isa frame structure which is free of the above-mentioned drawback.
According to the present invention, there is provided a frame structure in which a welding between the frame pipe and the bracket is so made as to extend along a longitudinal length of the pipe.
According to the present invention, there is provided a frame structure of a seat, which comprises a rectangularly extending pipe having opposed side portions, each side portion including upper and lower parts; a pair of flanged brackets each including a major part and a recessed part of the flange, the major part having an elongate cut which extends from the recessed part; and connecting means connecting the major part of each bracket to the lower part of the corresponding side portion of the pipe in such a manner that the elongate cut extends along the longitudinal axis of the corresponding side portion, wherein a boundary part of each bracket by which the elongate cut is defined is welded to the upper part of the corresponding side portion of the pipe throughout the length thereof.
Preferred features and advantages of the present n Ir.
f Z.
1 i 11 e invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a conventional frame structure for a seatback part of an automotive seat; Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing a frame structure of the present invention; Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the part enclosed by a circle indicated by the arrow III of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line IV-IV of Fig. 3.
Referring to Pigs. 2 to 4, particularly Fig. 2, there is shown a frame structure according to the present invention.
Because the general construction of the invention is substantially the same as that of the above-mentioned conventional one, only parts and construction which are different from those of the conventional one will be described in the following. The same parts are denoted by the same numerals.
As is well seen from Fig. 3, each bracket 2A or 2B is formed with a shallow and rounded groove 7 which extends downward from the recess 4 and neatly receives therein the corresponding side portion of the pipe 1. The bracket 2A or 2B is further formed at the upper part of the groove 7 with a downwardly extending cut-3. It is to be noted that, as is best seen from Fig. 3, the cut 3 extends substantially along the axis of the corresponding side portion of the pipe 1.
In the present invention, only the cut portion 3 is welded to the corresponding side portion of the pipe 1. More specifically, as is understood from Fig. 3, only a boundary part of each bracket 2A or 2B by which the elongatp cut 3 is defined is welded to the upper part of the corresponding side portion la or lb of the pipe 1 throughout the length thereof.
In other words, in the present invention, the welded part of the side portion la or lb of the pipe 1 extends along the axis of the same, not in the circumferential direction around the same.
In accordance with the present invention, the flexural rigidity of the welded parts of the pipe 1 is not so lowered because the heat for the welding is applied to only such limited longitudinally extending part of the pipe 1.
11 1 Cl2iMS: - 1. A frame structure of a seat, comprising: a rectangularly extending pipe having opposed side portions, each side portion including upper and lower parts; a pair of flanged brackets each including a major part and a recessed part of the flange, said major part having-an elongate cut which extends from said recessed part; and connecting means connecting said major part of each bracket to the lower part of the corresponding side portion of the pipe in such a manner that the elongate cut extends along the longitudinal axis of said corresponding side portion, wherein a boundary part of each bracket by which said elongate cut is defined is welded to the upper part of the corresponding side portion of said pipe throughout the length thereof.
