Description

MEDICINAL OR THERAPEUTIC PACK Description The present invention relates to a medicinal or therapeutic pack for thermal treatment.

At present, the treatment of some diseases, such as rheumatic fever, arthritis, scapulohumeral periarthritis and damage to tendon and soft tissues, is dependent on drug application and physiotherapy. For example, herb paste is applied onto the surface of the patent's skin. US Patent 813491 discloses that a therapeutic pack for thermal treatment which possesses two compartments separated by a fracturable diaphragm includes liquid and solid thermogenic materials. The diaphragm is broken down by pressure when the pack is in use. As thermogenic materials are mixing, heat in the pack is released for thermal treatment. The manufacture of this pack is complex and its therapeutic effect is not good enough because it cannot combine drug treatment with hot compress.

The object of this invention is to make therapeutic pack which combines hot compress with drug therapy for increased therapeutic effect and shorter curative time for the patient. Manufacture of the pack, which is also more convenient in use, is simpler than that of the pack known in the prior art.

The invention accordingly provides a medical or therapeutic pack for thermal treatment, comprising a bag, at least one medicament or therapeutic agent associated with the bag, thermogenic material contained within the bag and a closed outer container in which the bag is received. According to the disease or condition to be treated, the medicament (5) or therapeutic agent(s), such as chemicals or medicinal herbs, can be appropriately selected. Preferably, there are many holes for air in the basic bag containing thermogenic materials. When the pack is used, the outer container, for example a closed packet, is opened and, as a result, air enters the basic bag by passing through the holes. After the pack has been kneaded with hands for a short time, it is put on the affected skin of the patient for treatment. The medical and/or therapeutic effect of the pack of this invention can be much greater than that of fumigant, lotion to the body and some chemicals suitable for external application. The pack of this invention can provide the effects of both hot compress and drug therapy. Moreover, hot compress can increase the permeating ability of drugs, especially medicinal herbs, which increases the therapeutic effect of the pack.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a medicinal/ therapeutic pack for thermal treatment, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on a larger scale on the line A-A shown in Fig. 1.

The principal features of the pack are: 1. basic bag 2. layer of drugs 3. closed packet 4. thermogenic materials 5. holes for air 6. film The pack shown in the drawings consists principally of a basic bag 1, a layer of drugs 2, thermogenic materials 4 within the basic bag and a closed packet 3 outside the basic bag. The basic bag 1 can be made of any ventilating material, such as cotton fabric. The inner surface of both sides of the basic bag is covered with a layer of dense membrane, such as a plastics film, with many holes 5. There are for example at least three lines of holes and twenty holes in each line in the membrane covering one or both sides of the basic bag.

The drugs 2 associated with the basic bag are selected according to the disease or condition to be treated. The selected drugs are absorbed into or sprinkled or smeared directly on to one or both sides of the basic bag. The thermogenic material consists in this example of iron powder, activated charcoal, vermiculite, SiO2, NaCl and water. These materials should be mixed thoroughly and put into the basic bag before sealing thereof. Finally, the sealed basic bag is put into the plastics packet 3 which could otherwise be a plastics box.

An example of the manufacturing process of the medicinal therapeutic pack for thermal treatment is as follows: 1. Preparation of the thermogenic ingredients (for each pack): iron powder 25-45g activated charcoal 1-10g vermiculite 1-5g SiO2 2-8g NaCI 1-4g water 5-1 3g 2. The prescription of medicines mixed together which is used for applying drugs to the basic bag (for each pack): radix dugelicae pubescen 150-350g rhizoma seu radix notopterydii 150-350g radix aconiti preparata 100-.200g radix aconiti Kusnezoffii 100-200g Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. 200-300g radix ledebouriellae 200-300g rhizoma curcumae longae 200-300g flos carthami 200-300g cortex einnamoni 200-300g camphor 50-1 50g An extract of the abovementioned medicines is made by ethanol reflux extraction and absorbed into or sprinkled on the surface of the basic bag 1 which is covered on its inside by a thin plastic film with holes for air.

Finally, thermogenic materials are put into the basic bag which will be sealed and then covered with the closed plastic packet.
