Description

BAKING OVEN DOOR The present invention relates to a baking oven door.
Baking oven doors with viewing windows have to meet different demands. The door frame and the viewing window pane inserted into an appropriately shaped opening need to be mechanically interconnected in such a manner that they can withstand forces acting on the frame and/or the pane. The frame and pane not only need to be firmly connected one with the other mechanically, but also need to be thermally sealed in order to inhibit outflow of the heat produced in the interior of the oven. In known oven doors with viewing windows, the sealing means used does not support or only insubstantially supports the mechanical connection.
There is thus a need for a baking oven door with viewing pane which is mechanically mounted in place in simple manner and at the same time meets the insulation demands.
According to the present invention there is provided a baking oven door comprising a door element with an opening, the opening being bounded by a flange having a first portion connected to the door element and extending substantially perpendicularly to the general plane thereof and a second portion connected to the first portion and extending substantially parallelly to said plane, a viewing pane arranged in the opening to be surrounded at its periphery by the flange, and a sealing element which encloses the peripheral edge portion of the pane and which has a groove receiving the second portion of the flange.
In a preferred embodiment, a frame of the door has an opening which receives a viewing window pane and a sealing element arranged between frame and pane. The frame of the door has a flange which encloses the pane along its periphery and comprises a first portion perpendicular to the frame or to the pane and a second portion parallel to the frame or to the pane. The sealing element encloses the pane in the region of the flange and has a groove into which the second portion of the flange engages.
The mechanical connection of frame and pane as well as the insulating effect of the door are interlinked in advantageous manner.
The sealing element firmly connected with the flange and the frame gives a secure hold to the pane. The sealing element can press against the two mutually perpendicular portions of the flange so that an effective sealing of the door is provided even in the case of tolerances in the pane and/or in the flange.
The sealing element, which preferably is constructed as a onepiece closed belt matched to the periphery of the pane, can be connected in simple and rapid manner with the flange.
The preferably resilient sealing element permits a springing of the pane relative to the flange. The effects of mechanical stresses, which can occur in the case of rigidly connected frame and pane and cause damage, are mitigated. Moreover, the sealing element between flange and pane reduces thermal stresses which can lead to destruction of the pane at high temperatures, for example in the case of a metal frame and a glass pane rigidly connected with the frame.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be more particular-ly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a sectional view of part of a first baking oven door embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of part of a second baking oven door embodying the invention; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a baking oven door embodying the invention.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in Fig. 1 part of a baking oven door which comprises a door element or frame 1.
The frame 1 has an opening which receives a viewing window pane 21 and a sealing element 3 is arranged between the frame 1 and the pane 21. The frame has a pane mounting flange 4, which encloses the pane 21 along its periphery. The flange 4 consists of two parts 41 and 42, which are constructed as mutually perpendicular rails in such a way that the first part 41 is arranged perpendicularly to the plane of the frame 1 and the second part 42 is arranged parallel to the plane of the frame. As Fig. 1 shows, the frame 1 and the pane 21 are arranged substantially parallel to each other so that the first part 41 of the flange is substantially perpendicular to the pane 21 and the second part 42 is substantially parallel to the pane 21.
The sealing element 3 is arranged between the pane 21 and the first part 41 of the flange as well as between the pane 21 and the second part 42 of the flange. The sealing element encloses the pane 21 at the window side remote from the second part 41 and at the side facing the second part 42. It is matched to the shape formed by the flange as well as to the shape of the pane. The sealing element 3 surrounds the pane 21 in U-shape in the region of the flange 4 and has a groove 31, into which the second part 42 engages, as illustrated in Fig. 1. Thereby, the sealing element 3 on the one hand and either the flange 4 or the frame 1 are each firmly connected mechanically with the other. The sealing element 3 illustrated in Fig. 1 has the approximate shape of an "S" turned through 90" in clockwise sense.
The part of the baking oven door illustrated in Fig. 2 also consists of a frame 1 with a flange 4, a pane 21 and a sealing element 3. The frame 1 and flange 4 are constructed as in Fig. 1. The pane 21 has a greater thickness compared with the pane illustrated in Fig.
1. Its surface remote from the second part 42 of the flange 4 is flush with the frame 1. The sealing element 3 also encloses the pane 21 in the region of the flange 4 and fills out the space between the pane 21 and the flange 4. The cross-section of the sealing element 3 at the window side remote from the second part 42 has the form of a part-spherical section which adjoins directly at the sealing element part arranged above the first part 41. The upper segment of the section extends along the pane 21 and the lower segment along the frame 1.
The sealing element 3 can have a shape, independent of the thickness of the pane 21, enclosing the edge of the pane 21 as well as the edge of the frame 1.
The flange 4, pane 21 and sealing element 3 shown in the Figs.
1 and 2 can be connected in simple manner. The sealing element 3, which is constructed as a one-part closed belt matched to the periphery of the pane 21, is drawn onto the pane 21 so that, as shown in Figs.
1 and 2, it encloses the pane 21 in U-shape along its periphery.
The pane 21 with sealing element 3 is inserted into the opening of the flange 1. In that case, that part of the sealing element 3 which in the assembled state overlaps the second part 42 of the flange 4 is still between the pane 21 and part 42. The groove 31 is disposed approximately parallel to the part 42. Disposed in the groove 31 is a plurality of filaments which lead out of the groove 31, envelop the overlapping part of the sealing element 3 during the assembly and are accessible atthat side of the second part 42 which is remote from the pane 21. By pulling the filaments, the pane 21 with the sealing element 3 is moved in the direction of the second part 42 of the flange 4 and the overlapping part of the sealing element 3 is inverted over the part 42.
Fig. 3 shows a baking oven door with two viewing window panes 21 and 22 arranged parallel to each other In that case, the pane 21 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 faces the interior of the baking oven and the pane 22 is arranged at the outside of the door. The arrangement, illustrated in Fig. 3, of the flange 4 with respect to the pane 21 is able to accept the pressure conditions prevailing in operation of the oven. The part 42 is for that reason arranged at the side of the pane 21 remote from the cooking space.
The frame 1, the panes 21 and 22, the sealing element 3 and the flange 4 can consist of different materials. The frame 1 and the flange 4 preferably consist of a metallic material and the panes 21 and 22 of a heat-resistant glass material. A resilient temperatureresistant material, for example silicone rubber, can serve as the material for the sealing element 3.
