Abstract
216,955. Boby, Ltd., R., and Fabry, A. March 10, 1923. Flax-pulling machines.-A machine comprises mechanically resilient jaws carried between endless chains and operated by a cam to seize and release the stalks. A frame A, Fig. 1, supported by wheels a<1>, carries in a frame c<1> a separate pulling attachment. This latter consists of parallel shafts E, C carrying at their ends sprockets F, D over which pass chains G. Connected across the chains are bars H, Fig. 4, carrying bearings h<1> for shafts j' and fixed jaw members K. The shafts j<1> are moved axially by a fixed cam (not shown) against the pressure of a spring j<2>, and actuate through collars p<1> attached to the shafts and springs p<2> movable jaw members which cooperate resiliently with the jaws K. In operation, guide fingers R divide and guide the stalks and tines T loosen the roots, the chains G being driven through ordinary gearing from the road wheels. The fixed cam successively actuates the shafts j<1> to effect the gripping of the stalks between the faces of members P, K, and afterwards to release them. The stalks fall on to a conveyer S and are carried to a rear receptacle a<3>. The faces of the members P, K may be rubber covered.
