Abstract

216,860. Sury, J. J. C. M. May 30, 1923, [Convention date]. Pigment processes; photo-mechanical printing- surfaces.-A pigment printing paper has incorporated in a colloidal coating, which may consist of gelatine, gum arabic, albumen, or a mixture thereof, a temporary colouring matter permeable to light and capable of being dissolved by a diluted acid with effervescence of gas, whereby the colloidal coating is rendered spongy. The colouring matter, blue in colour, is preferably composed of a silicate of aluminium and sodium and pentasulphide. of sodium, and is mixed with a powdered inert white substance such as barium sulphate or kaolin which aids in keeping open the cavities produced by the evolution of gas. The coating is spread on paper which is preferably thickly sized, and is sensitized with an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solution of an alkaline bichromate. After drying and exposure a visible image is obtained and is developed in hot or cold water and decolourized in dilute hydrochloric acid giving the spongy layer. A powdered pigment mav be dusted on the layer and cam be transferred by slight pressure on to a sheet of paper coated with adhesive, or the pigment may be fixed on the original print. The paper can be used for superposing colour images in the threecolour process. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect.. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the production of an etching by pressing the developed and dried image layer against a plate of sufficiently soft metal. The etching may be inked with fatty acid and used to print copies. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
