Abstract

A combination waterproof coat with provision for a tent and sleeping bag has a detachable quilted lining (25) which can be removed and closed up lengthwise and along the bottom by zips (28, 29) to form a closed bag with a pillow (24) at the head. The coat also has a non-detachable inner lining (32, 33, 34) which can be opened out to form a tent and special pockets in the coat accommodate tent poles. For carrying purposes the lower part of the coat can be folded up against the upper half and on the back of the coat is a built-in rucksack (13) and a pocket for a hood (14). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Multi-purpose coat This invention relates to a waterproof coat which includes, or is combined with, other features or elements of use for camping or sleeping.
Broadly stated the invention consists in a coat formed with attached or removable elements capable of forming a tent, and/or sleeping bag, and/or rucksack. In one preferred design the coat has a detachable padded lining provided with closure means to form a sleeping bag. The coat may also be permanently or detachably connected to tent sections which have means to hold them folded inside the coat, or opened out to form the tent. The coat itself conveniently forms part of the tent surface thus reducing overall weight and the arms of the coat are for this purpose provided with zip closure adjacent the armholes.
The tent sections preferably include locating eyes for tent pegs, tent ropes and guy ropes, and a zip closed opening for the tent, and the coat may have a pocket or other compartment for a sectional tent pole.
According to another preferred feature of the invention, the coat has an external built-in or removable pack or rucksack and it may have a pocket receiving a waterproof hood. In addition there may be external or longitudinal zips or other connections to hold the complete coat folded into a compact form and having handles or shoulder straps for carrying.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a view of the complete assembled pack viewed from the inside, Figure 2 is a view of the same pack viewed from the outside, Figure 3 is a view of the pack with the lateral external seam zips undone ready to be unfolded to form a coat, Figure 4 illustrates the coat seen from the front when opened, Figure 5 is a view of the coat from the back, Figure 6 is a view of the coat from the side, Figure 7 illustrates the internal quilted lining when removed from the coat, Figure 8 illustrates the quilted lining made up to form a sleeping bag, Figures 9 and 10 are perspective side and end views illustrating the coat with the tent extensions opened out and erected to form a tent, Figure 11 is a plan view illustrating the ground sheet, Figure 12 illustrates the extended telescopic tent pole, Figures 13 and 14 are front and side illustrations of the tent pole catches.
In this example the apparatus consists essentially of a waterproof long length coat 20 (Figure 4) with the usual sleeves 21, 22, a front opening 23, pockets 8, 9 and 15, and a belt 24. Along both sides of the coat are vertical zips 6 which can be used to hold the lower part of the coat folded up against the top half to form a pack, as shown in Figures 1.2 and 3. On the back of the coat is an external built-in rucksack 13 with outside pockets and a closing flap 12, and on the outside of the coat collar is a zipped pocket 11 holding a folded waterproof hood 14.
The coat has a detachable quilted liner 25 (see Figure 7) held in place by press studs 26. Normally this is folded up along a transverse fold line 27, but when removed the extension is folded down to increase the overall length, the sides are then brought together and zipped closed along a centreline 28 (Figure 8), the bottom end also being zipped closed 29, to form a closed sleeping bag, and attached folded pillow 24 can then be opened out. The arms 30 of the liner are also zipped closed to complete the bag.
The coat also has a non-detachable inner lining which is normally folded and held in position by Velcro strips and when opened out it forms with the coat a complete tent, see Figures 9 and 10, having side sections 32, ends 33, a zipped front entry 34, fittings to receive the tops of the tent poles 19 and the usual tag tabs with rings for upper and lower level tent guys and pole guys.
The coat also includes a removable or built-in ground sheet 22 (see Figure 11) with press studs 23 or other fasteners to hold it in place inside the coat.
The tent poles 26 are formed in telescopic or separable short lengths which can be carried in tailored pockets of the coat and each of these tent pole sections can be fixed by means of a catch as shown in Figures 13 and 14.
1. A coat formed with attached or removable elements capable of forming a tent, and/or sleeping bag, and/or rucksack.
2. A coat according to Claim 1, having a detachable padded lining provided with closure means to form a sleeping bag.
3. A coat according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, permanently or detachably connected to tent sections which have means to hold them folded inside the coat, or opened out to form the tent.
4. A coat according to Claim 3, in which the tent sections include locating eyes for tent pegs, tent ropes and guy ropes, and a zip closed opening for the tent.
5. A coat according to Claim 4, having a pocket or other compartment for a sectional tent pole.
6. A coat according to any of the preceding claims, having an external built-in or removable pack or rucksack.
7. A coat according to any of the preceding claims, having a pocket receiving a waterproof hood.
8. A coat according to any of the preceding claims, including external or longitudinal zips or other connections to hold the complete coat folded into a compact form and having handles or shoul
