Abstract
The invention relates to a needle selecting device in a circular knitting machine, especially for the production of hosiery and the like goods, comprising selecting levers (3) mounted on above the other, each rockably mounted in a common structure and selectively rockable between the position in which its operative end is at one level with the jack butts and the position in which said end is at an intermediate level between said butts while control devices are assigned to the selecting levers (3) and include an electromagnet (7) for each selecting lever (3) the electromagnet (7) being controlled by a control device of the machine. The invention solves the arrangement of the electromagnets (7) by placing them alternately at one and at the other side of the levers. The levers are formed with cut-outs at 31 to provide clearance for the magnets. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Needle selecting device
The invention relates to a needle selecting device in a circular knitting machine, especially for the production of hosiery and the like goods.
Circular knitting machines with a needle selecting device are known, where control electromagnets are assigned to the opposite ends of selecting levers and the ends designed to cooperate with jack butts. Said device has a disadvantage that it requires a large space with regard to the design of the electromagnets. When reducing their dimensions to be able to use them in small diameter machines, the energy necessary to attract the levers would not be sufficient with regard to the bias of the returning means which act after de-energizing the electromagnets.
Further machines are known, where said disadvantage is eliminated in that a raising cam is assigned to each selecting lever, the selecting lever being returned by the raising cam into the field of action of the electro magnet which then practically only holds the selecting levers in operative positions. Due to this modification, the device is more complicated, while it is necessary to derive the motion of the cams from the needle cylinder. In small diameter machines said device requires again a large space and therefore it is not satisfactory. There are small diameter machines known, where said disadvantage is eliminated in that the selecting levers are at their operative ends profiled so, that the function of returning the levers is performed directly by the jack butts.But said device requires a larger arc of the needle cylinder for the actual operation of the selecting levers and with regard to the knitting speeds it is necessary to increase the weight of the levers, which in turn casts higher requirements on the energy of the electromagnets, even if their action is only to hold the selecting levers.
The object of the invention is to simplify the selection and to modify it for a small diameter knitting machine.
According to the invention there is provided a needle selecting device in a circular knitting machine especially for the production of hosiery and the like goods, comprising selecting levers mounted one above the other, each being rockably mounted in a common structure and selectively rocking between the position in which its operative end is at one level with the jack butts and the position in which said end is at inter mediate level between said butts, while to the selecting levers are assigned controlling devices including an electromagnet for each selecting lever, the electromagnets being controlled by a control device of the machine and arranged at the selecting levers at their sides alternately at one and at the other side.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an axial section of the lower part of the needle cylinder with illustrated assignment of the selection device to the jacks;
Figure 2 is a schematic front view of the arrangement of electromagnets at the selecting levers; and
Figure 3 is a top view of the location and arrangement of a selecting lever and an electromagnet.
A known single-cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods is provided with needle cylinder 1 in which there are jacks 2 with patterning butts 20. Above the jacks 2 there are known, not shown intermediate jacks and needles. Selecting levers 3 are assigned to patterning butts 20 and each selecting lever is rockably mounted in holder 4 of body 5 which serves to mount electromagnets. Operative ends of the selecting levers 3 are cut to press-in the butts 20, as illustrated in Fig. 3. Selecting levers 3 pass through cut-outs 50 (Fig. 2) in the front part of body 5. To thinned portions 51 of the body 5 which are made in the places of cut-outs 50 are fixed tension springs 6, the other ends of which are fixed to individual selecting levers 3.Further, electromagnets 7 are arranged at individual selecting levers 3 alternately at both sides, as illustrated in Fig. 2, so that a half of the electromagnets 7 out of the total number, is arranged at the odd selection levers 3 and the rest at even selecting levers 3. Each electromagnet 7 is provided with two shoes 71 and 72 reaching above the selecting levers 3. In the place of action of electromagnets 7 the selecting levers 3 are profiled so that there are cut-outs 31 by which the selecting levers 3 reach above the shoes 71,72 of the neighbouring electromagnets 7, which are arranged at the other side than the electro magnets 7 belonging to said selection levers 3.Due to said alternate opposite profiling of the neighbouring selecting levers 3 and especially by alternate arrangement of electromagnets 7 it is secured that no other selecting levers 3 are acted upon than those which have to be acted upon by assigned electromagnets 7.
Electromagnets 7 are fixedly mounted in the body 5 of the selecting device, which is fixed to the plate 8 of the machine. Electromagnets 7 are controlled by a known control microcomputer of the machine.
The above described selecting device operates as follows. Jacks 2 are provided with patterning butts 20 which are broken-out so that each jack is provided with only one butt 20, while due to their set-out in the needle cylinder 1, they are progressively divided into individual levels. Operative ends of selecting levers 3 project at the height into the space between the butts 20, where they are held by the action of springs 6 while they pass through the cut-outs 50 and bear against the bottom of the cut-out 50. If some of the electromagnets 7 are energized, then the shoes 71 and 72 attract the selecting lever 3 against the action of spring 6 to the upper surface of the cut-out 50, so that the operative end of the selecting lever 3 is in the path of movement of the patterning butt 20 and presses it in.
Thus also respective jack 2 is pressed-in, and during the following movement said jack 2 is raised by the cam and through said intermediate jack also the needle is raised into operative position.
The selecting levers may be variously modified within the scope of the invention so that the alternately arranged electromagnets are not limited as to the requirements for the energy, which results also in their design as to the occupied space. A part of the selecting lever in the place of action of the electromagnet can be shaped completely off the longitudinal axis, instead of tension springs torsion springs can be used, etc.
