Description

SPECIFICATION Feeding bottle The present invention relates to an infant feeding bottle.
It is well known to provide a baby feeding bottle comprising a container, a teat engageable with the container and a cap for covering the teat. The teat is held by a collar and, for stowage, is positioned extending into the bottle, so that the cap can be mounted on the bottle neck, whereas, for use, after removal of the cap, the teat is reversed so as to project away from the bottle.
The volume of the feeding bottle in unchangeable and it is common to provide, in addition, a small-sized feeding bottle in addition to the normal-sized feeding bottle. The small sized feeding bottle is often used, for example, for juice, whereas the normal-sized feeding bottle is used for milk. Accordingly, it is necessary to sterilise and carry at least two feeding bottles for an infant and this can cause inconvenience when they need to be carried outside the home.
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a feeding bottle which may be used as two feeding bottles of different volumes.
The present invention provides a feeding bottle comprising a container having a screwthreaded neck, a collar threadedly engageable with the neck and carrying or adapted to carry a teat projecting outwardly from the neck, and a cap releasably engageable with the collar for enclosing the teat, the cap having screw threads and the collar being removable from the container and threadedly engageable with the cap so that the cap is usable as a small container.
Reference is now made to the accompanying drawings, wherein like numerals refer to like or similar parts and in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a feeding bottle embodying the present invention; Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the feeding bottle; and Figure 3 shows how the feeding bottle is used as a small-sized feeding bottle.
With reference now to the drawings, the feeding bottle comprises a container 1 which is cylindrical, but may be shaped as desired.
The top of the container 1 has a short neck 5 provided with external threads. A collar 4 having internal threads (not shown) is releasably engageable with the threads of the neck 5. The collar 4 carries a teat 6 whereby the infant may suck liquid from the container. A protuberance 7 extends outwardly from the outer peripheral wall of the collar 4 for facilitating manual rotation of the collar for tightening and loosening the collar. A cap 2 is provided for protecting the teat and maintaining sterility. The cap resiliently engages with an annular wali 8 on the collar, so as to enclose the teat with the teat in position for use.
The cap 2 is of truncated cone form, with the smailer diameter end closed and the opposite end being provided with an annular external part carrying screw threads 3. These screw threads 3 are engageable with the internal threads (not shown) of the collar 4; as shown in Fig. 3. The cap, therefore, is itself usable as a small container, e.g. for feeding juice to an infant.
When it is required to feed a normal amount of milk to an infant, the collar 4 is engaged with the container to form a normalsized feeding bottle. When it is required to use a small-sized bottle, e.g. to feed an infant a small amount of juice, the collar is removed from the container 1 and engaged with the cap 2 to form a small-sized feeding bottle.
1. A feeding bottle comprising a container having a screw-threaded neck, a collar threadedly engageable with the neck and carrying or adapted to carry a teat projecting outwardly from the neck, and a cap releasably engageable with the collar for enclosing the teat, the cap having screw threads and the collar being removable from the container and threadedly engageable with the cap so that the cap is usable as a small container.
2. A feeding bottle according to Claim 1, wherein the collar has internal threads which are selectively engageable with external threads on the container and on the cap.
3. A feeding bottle substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
