Abstract

A plate 10 forming at least part of a supporting device for domestic tools has a peg 11 projecting forwardly therefrom to engage in an aperture at the outer end of a tool handle 13. The upper surface 11a of the peg 11 is inclined downwardly in an inward direction to form a ramp down which the handle will slide when fitted on to the peg and released, and the area of the plate surrounding the peg is recessed to receive the handle and resist swinging movement of the handle about the peg. A series of plates can be fitted together to form a rack, by means of studs 14 and recesses 15. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A supporting device for kitchen tools or other domestic tools This invention relates to a supporting device for kitchen tools, or other domestic tools.
It is well known to provide a rack to be fitted to an upright surface in a kitchen or other location, the rack having a plurality of pegs or hooks from which tools can be suspended by engagement of the peg or hook in an aperture at the outer end of the handle of the tool. Such tool racks, however, normally have the disadvantage that the tools can swing freely about the pegs and create irritating noise when a tool is fitted to the rack and swings into contact with neighbouring tools.
The present invention is concerned with reducing the likelihood of such swinging movement.
According to the present invention there is provided a supporting device, from which the handle of a kitchen tool or other domestic tool can be suspended, comprising a mounting plate suitable for fixing to an upright surface with a predetermined side of the plate lowermost, a peg projecting forwardly from said plate above said lowermost side, for engagement in an aperture in the end of the handle of a tool designed to fit the device, an area of the plate surface around the peg being recessed to a shape complementary to the end of the tool handle and the recess having sides which extend to said lowermost side of the plate, the upper surface of the peg being downwardly inclined over at least part of its length extending inwardly from its outer end so that the tool handle, when fitted over the peg and released, will slide down said inclined surface and fit snugly within the recess, and swinging movement of the tool about the peg will be being restrained by engagement of the sides of the tool handle with the sides of the recess.
The invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a mounting plate forming at least part of a supporting device according to the invention; Figures 2, 3 and 4 are respectively a rear view, top plan view, and underneath plan view, of the plate of Fig. 1; Figures 5 and 6 are views of the left-hand end and right-hand end of the plate of Fig. 1 respectively; Figure 7 is a section on the line VII-VII of Fig. 1; and Figure 8 is a front view of a modified plate in accordance with the invention.
As shown in the drawings, and in particular Fig. 1, the supporting device comprises mounting plate 10 of rectangular shape designed to be mounted on an upright surface, preferably with its longer sides horizontal.
Adjacent the centre of the plate is a peg 11 which stands forwardly away from the plane of the plate and is surrounded by a recess 1 2 in the plate which is complementary to the shape of the tool handle which the supporting device is designed to receive. The recess extends to the lower edge 1 0a of the plate as best seen in Figs. 1 and 4.
The upper surface of the peg, as best seen in Fig. 7, is formed with a ramp which slopes downwardly in a direction toward the plate from adjacent the outer end of the peg. This ramp-shaped surface 11 a is such that when a tool handle 13, which has an aperture at its upper end designed to receive the peg, is fitted onto the peg and released, the tool handle slides down the peg in a direction toward the plate until the upper end of the handle fits snugly within the recess 1 2 in the plate.
In this fitted position, the sides 1 2a, 1 2b of the recess 1 2 fit closely against the upright sides of the tool handle and so restrain any tendency of the tool handle to swing about the peg, as seen in Figs. 7 and 8.
As also seen in Fig, 8, the plate can be formed with two or more pegs and surrounding recesses to receive a corresponding number of tool handles.
Moreover, the plate is formed at its opposite ends with a projection 14 and a recess 1 5 for engagement with a corresponding recess and projection on the corresponding side of the next adjacent plate. Thus a series of plates can be fitted together to form a rack of any desired length. The outer end plates of the rack can be plain, that is to say formed without a peg and recess.
