Description

SPECIFICATION Antiseptic medical swab This invention relates to an antiseptic medical swab.
Swabs soaked in an antiseptic are invariably used for cleaning wounds, grazes or other lacerations. These swabs are commonly cut from rolls of lint or wads of cotton wool, then soaked in an antiseptic, or antiseptic solution, which requires prior dilution, before application.
In a first aid application in which a wound has been caused whilst at work, the injured person, or the person assisting, will very likely have dirty hands, and will contaminate a conventional swab whilst cutting it from a roll of lint and applying and diluting antiseptic from a bottle.
According to the present invention an antiseptic swab is made from a flexible foam material and has finger holes fashioned within it such that the swab can be withdrawn from a packet without contamination by the user's fingers. The swab is soaked in an antiseptic solution and packed in an air and liquid tight packet for immediate use in a first aid situation.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is an isometric view of the swab. Referring to Fig. 1, the swab comprises a shaped block 1 made from a flexible open-cealled foam material and having a plurality of holes 2 fashioned within the foam. The holes 2 are of such a size and position as to allow the insertion of two fingers into the block.
