Abstract

214,520. Berry, L. T. July 23, 1923. Windows and the like, cleaning.-Apparatus in which a squeegee is adapted to contact with the glass during the down stroke and be returned out of contact with the glass under the action of springs comprises guides 2 mounted at the sides of the screen 1 each guide being divided by a partition 6 into channels 7, 8 in which run the rollers 13, 14 of guide members 12 for the squeegee 3. Apertures 9, 11 in the partition 6 are adapted to allow the roller 13 to pass but not the roller 14 which is larger, and springs 16, 17 are arranged in the channels so that the roller 13 travels downwards in the channel 8 and upwards in the channel 7 thus forcing the squeegee upon the glass during the down-stroke and holding it clear during the up-stroke. The squeegee is operated by arms 4 having slots 19 in which engage members 18 these members having slots 21, Fig. 5, to take pins 23 fixed to members 24 carrying the squeegee, the slots allowing of the vertical and pivoting movement. At their other ends the arms 4 are pivoted to the sides of the screen and they are connected at their middle points by a slot 35 and pin 37; one of these arms has an extension 28 acted on by a cam 29 on a shaft 31 having a handle 33 inside the screen. By depressing the handle the wiper is moved downwardly, to be returned on release of the handle by springs 42 on the arms 4; it may be retained in the inoperative position by a clamp 41 engaging the arms 4.
