Description

SPECIFICATION Watch glass and watch This invention relates to a watch glass and to a watch provided with a watch glass according to the present invention.
According to the present invention there is provided a watch glass comprising a bottom glass formed of transparent material and an upper glass formed of transparent material, said glasses being sealed together around their periphery and defining between them a sealed spaced which contains a visible fluid.
Preferably the fluid is a liquid.
Particles or objects may be provided in the sealed space.
Two embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a transverse section through a watch provided with a glass according to the present invention and constituting a first embodiment, Figure 2 is a plan view of the watch shown in Figure 1, and Figure 3 is a section similar to that of Figure 1 showing a glass constituting a second embodiment.
The watch shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a case 10 provided with portions 11 with which engage pins 1 2 for attaching a wrist strap 13 to the case 10. Secured to the case 10 is a back plate 14 and housed within the case 10 is watch movement holder 1 5 and watch movement 16 provided with a watch dial 1 7 and hands 1 8 which move over the dial 1 7. Mounted on the case 10 is a watch glass 19 and extending through the case 10 is a crown or winder 20.
The watch glass 1 9 comprises a lower or bottom glass 21 provided at its periphery with an upstanding peripheral wall 22 and having adjacent its periphery an annular trough portion 23, and sealingly engaged with the upper end of the peripheral wall 22 is an upper glass 24. The glasses 21 and 24 are formed from any suitable transparent material, such as glass or plastics material and together they define a sealed space 25. Provided within the sealed space 25 is a visible fluid 26 which is preferably a liquid and also provided in the space 25 are particles or objects 27 which can move within the space 25.
The particles or objects 27 may float in the liquid 26. The dial 17 and hands 18 can be viewed through the glasses 21, 14 and through the fluid 26. The fluid 26 does not completely fill the space 25 and therefore can flow across the space 25 when the watch is moved. This produces a decorative effect. The glasses 21 and 24 are sealed together by providing on the wall 22 a lip 28 which engages in a peripheral groove 29 provided on the glass 24.
The watch shown in Figure 3 is simliar to that shown in Figure 1 but in this embodiment the periphery of the glass 24 has a recessed peripheral flange 30 which sealingly engages with a recessed peripheral flange 31 on the glass 21.
The liquid 26 partly covers the face of the dial 1 7 and the covered area changes when the watch is moved.
The particles or objects 27 can have any desired shape and configuration and be formed of any suitable material.
The liquid 26 may be opaque so that the area of the dial covered by the liquid cannot be seen.
