Abstract
On a game board 1 are defined sixteen main areas 3 arranged in a square configuration, which main areas are each sub-divided into four unit areas 4, each unit area of one main area is provided with a different marking, such as a numeral, letter or colour so that the main areas are substantially identical. A plurality of markers are provided bearing markings consistent with the unit areas. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Game
The present invention-concerns a game comprising a board and a plurality of markers.
More specifically, the invention concerns a parlour game for two persons of the so-called tic-tac-toe or noughts and crosses type.
When playing the said game, tic-tac-toe (unlimited), two players each in his turn make one figure mark on paper divided in squares -- usually one of them making crosses and the other making circles. The aim is to achieve a row of a given number, e.g. five marks after each other; the winner is he who first accomplishes such a set of marks.
When playing this variety of tic-tac-toe, the field of squares is unlimited, i.e., the game can be continued indefinitely in the net of squares.
Therefore, fixed game boards and markers are not usable to play this game.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new kind of game board by the aid of which it is possible to play the said game of noughts and crosses.
According to the present invention a game comprising a game board and a plurality of markers, characterized in that on the game board are defined a plurality of main areas in square configuration, in each of which are formed a plurality of unit areas, each unit area of one main area having mutually different markings so that the main areas are mutually substantially identical and that the markers are provided having markings consistent with the unit areas.
The invention is based on confining on the game board a finite, given number, preferably 16, of main areas in square configuration, suitably four sided by side and four on top of each other. The said main areas correspond in the game to the squares of tic-tac-toe. In each one of the main areas four unit areas may be established, provided with mutually different markings in such manner that the main areas are mutually substantially identical. Furthermore, the markers used in the game are provided with markings consistent with the unit areas.
When playing the game, each player in his turn places his marker at the point which he desires.
The aim is to place the markers so that unit areas marked with markers and bearing among themselves similar markings come to form a row; i.e., on four unit areas marked with the same marking and lying side by side or on top of each other or diagonally (diagonals of the square formed by the main areas) has been placed one marker with the same marking. The person who makes such a row consisting of similar markers placed on equivalent unit areas is the winner.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 presents, viewed from above, one game board according to the invention,
Figure 2 presents a game marker belonging to a game board as shown in figure 1, and
Figure 3 shows the main area belonging to another game board according to the invention.
In figure 1, sixteen main areas 3 have been arranged to form a square, four abreast and four on top of each other. In each main area 3, furthermore, four unit areas 4 have been formed which are provided with mutually different markings, in this case inscribed with the letter characters A, B, C and D. All main areas 3 of the game board 1 are substantially identical to each other.
In figure 2 there is depicted a game marker according to the invention, this marker having been marked with the letter A.
In figure 3, the main area 3 of the game board 1 has been divided into four unit areas 4 marked with different colours (red, blue, yellow and black).
The markers meant for playing on this board are marked with corresponding colour markings (not depicted in the figure).
The number of markers 2 in the game may vary, and it may be for instance 10-16-20-30 etc. Each of the two players has the same number of markers, and each player's markers have been provided with identification marks, such as colour, numeral, letter, shape, etc. so that the players are enabled to distinguish their own markers from the opponent's.
The game board is of substantially planar shape. Thus, the main areas 3 defined on the game board 1 and their unit areas 4 lie in the same plane. The definitions 'side by side' and 'on top of each other' employed in the description of the areas of the game board 1 are understood to mean that the respective areas are located substantially in the same plane of the game board in the directions of the x coordinate and the y coordinate in the coordinate system, for instance a rectangular coordinate system, formed by the plane of the game board.
It is possible in the game to use markers of which each has been provided with one of the four unit area markings; each player has in that case a plurality of markers each provided with one of the identifications A, B, C or D. Alternatively e.g. cubeshaped markers may be used with different unit area markings provided on their different sides, such as A, B, C or D. In that case the cubical marker is placed on the game board so that the marking intended and selected by the player is on top.
1. A game comprising a game board and a plurality of markers, characterized in that on the game board are defined a plurality of main areas in square configuration, in each of which are formed a plurality of unit areas, each unit area of one main area having mutually different markings so that the main areas are mutually substantially identical, and that the markers are provided having
markings consistent with the unit areas.
2. A game according to claim 1 in which 16
main areas are provided in a square configuration.
