Brush stocks; brushes with bristle surface inclined.-The stock of a nail or like brush is divided longitudinally to form narrow brushes the stocks A, B of which are pivotally connected so that they may be held together to form the equivalent of a brush having an undivided stock or mav be held to enable the free ends of the bristles to be directed towards each other to form a V- shaped brushing surface. The brushes may be mounted at each end as shown in Fig. 4, on a pivot C fitting in lugs A<2>, B<2> which form part of plates fixed to the ends of the stocks. In the construction shown in Fig. 5 the brushes are mounted on independent pivots E, F carried by a casing D and are adapted to move together by the provision of a tongue A<4> at each end of the stock A which engages in a groove B<4> in the stock B. In a modification the tongue A<4> and groove B<4> are replaced by a pin in the stock A and a hole in the stock B into which the pin projects through a slot in a plate covering the hole. A blade spring may be provided so that the inward movement of the bristles is effected against the action of the spring. A fixed set of bristles may be positioned between the two sets of movable bristles. The bristles may decrease in length towards the inner abutting sides of the stocks as shown. The Provisional Specification refers to sets of bristles mounted on backings capable of being depressed against the action of springs.
