Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In a doubleacting Diesel engine each combustion chamber is formed in part spherical and in part conical. The upper and lower cylinder parts are supported by a base B carried on the main frame. The base has scavenging-air inlet and exhaust passages 5, 6 divided by webs b and registering with ports in the liners 2. The liners and barrels 1 are thickened at the base end and rest on the webs, being held on by clamping rings D. The upper and lower water packets C, C<1> rest on the clamping rings D and are bolted to thimbles 10, 11 on the cylinder ends. The upper fuelinjection valve 58 and a compressed-air starting valve are mounted in a chest 12.
