Abstract
209,019. Gjelstad, A. Dec. 23, 1922, [Convention date]. Clips, spring-wire.-A clip for holding plants or tree branches 3 against espalier wires 1 comprises a spring bow 2 formed at one end with a double bend 4 which normally holds the other end away from the wire. The branch is enclosed in the bow and the free end of the bow is then forced over the wire and retained in position by a hook on its extremity. Loops 6 may be provided to facilitate the manipulation of the clip. In a modified form the spring pressure normally forces the free end over the wire and it is retained in operative position by a stop engaging the near side of the wire. In the modification, Fig. 17, the clip is secured by a single loop 9 at one end and at the other by a double loop 9 which in operative position is held on the wire by a spring forming the end of the loop and engaging either the branch or the wire.
