Abstract

The vat-dyestuffs described in Specification 28043/09 and made p by condensing a -derivatives of 2 : 1-naphthisatins with a -naphthol or a -anthrol or derivatives thereof having a free ortho position to the hydroxyl group but excluding 1-oxy-6-naphthol ethers, are halogenated in the naphthol or anthrol nucleus by means of sulphuryl chloride; the products are deeper in shade and faster to boiling than the parent dyestuffs. In an example, a product dyeing in bluish-black shades from the hydrosulphite vat is prepared by treating with sulphuryl chloride in chlorobenzene the dyestuff from b -naphthisatin-a -chloride and a -anthrol.
