Abstract
A windscreen wiper fitting includes an articulated harness comprising a primary yoke 2 on the extremities of which there are articulated pivotable secondary yokes 1 for carrying a wiper blade rubber or a pivotable tertiary yoke. Each secondary yoke comprises two laterally protruding lugs 4, and a rider piece 5 of plastic material, which is formed with two slots 6 for the passage of said lugs, is fitted on the secondary yoke. Each extremity of yoke 2, on which a secondary yoke 1 is articulated, has a U-shaped section and the internal face of each side of yoke 2 comprises a hollow 9 into which an extremity of one of said lugs fits in snap-engaging manner. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Windscreen wiper fitting
The present invention relates to windscreen wiper fittings, especially for automobile vehicles.
One of the important problems posed by windscreen wiper blades is that of obtaining simple and reliable assembling, in order to reduce the labour costs. In fact most known blades are constituted by an articulated harness fixed on the extremity of an oscillating wiper arm and carrying a wiper blade rubber. The blade rubber is applied against the screen to be wiped, through the intermediary of the articulated harness, under the action of the pressure force supplied by the arm.
To permit the wiper blade rubber to be longitudinally deformed in order continuously to match the variable curvature of the screen, harnesses are used constituted by a primary yoke articulated to the end of the oscillating arm and to at least one extremity of which a small secondary yoke is articulated which supports the wiper blade rubber or, in certain cases, a small tertiary yoke.
In the majority of wipers of this type the articulation of the secondary yokes, and of the tertiary yokes if present, is effected by rivets, which is an onerous method. It has also been proposed to effect the articulation by crimping with play, this method being less onerous than the previous but still necessitating significant labour. In all cases a defect in one of the yokes or in an articulation necessitates the scrapping of the whole.
In order to reduce the noises due to metal-to-metal friction, it has also been proposed to make certain of the yokes of plastic material assembling still remaining costly. It has also been proposed to fix an intermediate piece of plastic material to the extremity of the yoke by crimping, which intermediate piece serves as articulation for the secondary yoke. There again the assembly labour is significant.
The present invention aims at simpifying the articulated fitting of the yokes while reducing the operating noises.
This aim is achieved according to the invention by means of a windscreen wiperfitting comprising an articulated harness for carrying a wiper blade rubber, the said harness comprising a primary yoke to the extremities of which pivoting secondary yokes are articulated which serve to carry the wiper blade rubber or a pivoting tertiary yoke, which windscreen wiper blade is characterised in that the pivoting yoke comprises two laterally protruding lugs, a rider piece of plastic material comprising two openings for the passage of the said lugs in fitted on the pivoting yoke, and the extremity of the yoke on which the pivoting yoke is articulated has a U-shaped section and the inner face of each U-side comprises a hollow in which the extremity of one of the said lugs snaps into elastic engagement.
A form of embodiment of such a windscreen wiper blade is represented by way of non-limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: FIGURE 1 is a diagrammatic cross-sectional view of a rider piece in the course of fitting on a pivoting yoke,
FIGURE 2 is a lateral elevational view of the assembly according to Figure 1,
FIGURE 3 is a diagrammatic cross-sectional view of the articulation of the wiper blade, the rider piece being in position on the pivoting yoke and the harness yoke being ready to be fitted,
FIGURE 4 is analogous with Figure 3, the harness yoke being in the course of assembling,
FIGURE 5 is analogous with Figures 3 and 4 after assembly of the articulation,
FIGURE 6 is a lateral elevational view of the articulation,
FIGURE 7 is analogous with Figure 6, for a different angular position of the pivoting yoke.
Only one single articulation of the wiper blade has been represented in the drawings, it being clearly understood that the various articulations can have the same form.
The wiper blade comprises a pivoting yoke 1 (of which only the part adjacent to the pivot point is represented) intended to be fitted on the extremity of a harness yoke 2 (only this extremity being represented). The pivoting yoke 1 has a U-shaped section and in the pivoting zone it is open at the upper part by a cutaway portion 3. Moreover in this zone the sides of the U comprise two laterally protruding lugs 4 formed by cutting out and bending.
In this pivoting zone of the yoke 1 there is fitted a rider piece 5 of plastic material having a generally
U-shaped section, each side of which comprises a slot 6 each permitting the passage of one of the lugs 4 of the yoke 1. Moreover the central part of the rider piece 5 comprises an inner pad piece 7 which, after positioning of the rider piece Son the yoke 1, comes to lodge in the cutaway portion 3.
The extremity of the harness yoke 2 pivotally carrying the yoke 1 has a U-shaped section and each of the sides of the U carries a boss 8 forming an internal hollow 9. The bosses 8 can be obtained by punching.
After fitting of the rider piece 5 on the yoke 1, the yoke 2 is pushed down on to the rider piece 5 (Figure 4) until the hollows 9 come opposite to the lugs 4.
The sides are then pushed down into their rest position (Figure 5) and the extremities of the lugs 4 can pivot into the hollows 9 (Figures 6 and 7) to ensure the articulation of the yoke 1 on the yoke 2. Dismantlement in case of defect can be effected by converse deformation of the sides of the yoke 2. The lugs 4 can also be elastically deformable, in a varient of embodiment, and can retract for the passage of the sides of the yoke 2.
1. A windscreen wiper fitting, comprising an articulated harness for carrying a wiper blade rubber, the said harness comprising a primary yoke on the extremities of which there are articulated pivoting secondary yokes which serve to carry the wiper blade rubber or a pivoting tertiary yoke, wherein the pivoting yoke comprises two laterally protruding lugs, a rider piece of plastic material comprising two openings for the passage of the said lugs is fitted on the pivoting yoke, and the extremity of the yoke on which the pivoting yoke is articulated has a
U-shaped section and the internal face of each side
