Abstract

A bath (1) is provided with a removable head and back rest (2) which has one end edge (7) adapted to fit over a portion of the rim (5) of the bath. The other edges of the rest (2) generally conform with and lie against the side wall (4) and base (3) of the bath. The head and back rest (2) is shaped to support the head and back of a baby in the bath. The base of the bath has the general shape of an isosceles triangle with rounded corners. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to baths for babies The present invention relates to improvments in or relating to baths for babies.
The invention provides a bath having a base and a side wall terminating in a rim, in combination with a head and back rest having one end edge adapted to fit over a portion of the rim, the opposing end edge adapted to lie against the base of the bath.
The invention also includes a head and back rest comprising a sheet having a lip at one end edge thereof and an indentation adjacent said one end edge for receiving the head of a baby.
In order that the invention may be well understood an embodiment thereof will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bath with a head and back rest fitted; Figure 2 is a plan view ofthe head and back rest; and Figure 3 is a section on line Ill-Ill of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, the bath is generally designated 1 and the head and back rest 2.
The bath 1 has a base 3 which has the general shape of an isosceles triangle with rounded corners and sides. The base 3 is surrounded by a side wall 4 which terminates in a turned over rim 5. The head end 6 of the bath is at the apex of the triangle enclosed by the two longer sides. The base 3 may conveniently be provided with indentations or ridges to provide a non-slip surface.
The head and back rest 2 is a shaped sheet of plastics material having one end edge 7 turned over to define a lip which fits over the portion of the rim 5 at the head end 6 of the bath. The edge 7 is provided with an outwardly extending handle section 8 for gripping the rest for fitting and removal. An indentation 9 is formed in the rest adjacent the end edge 7 and is shaped so as to receive the head of a baby.
The rest slopes substantially uniformly from the indentation 9 to the opposing end edge 10 which may be slightly upturned so that it lies against the base 3. The remaining sides of the rest 2 are so shaped as to generally conform with the side wall 4 where they abut therewith so that there are no appreciable gaps between the bath and the rest.
A baby in the bath has his head and back comfortably supported on the rest thereby leaving the mother's hands free to wash the baby. The indentation provided for the head helps to prevent the baby slipping down the rest.
It will also be appreciated that the above-described bath may be used without the head and back rest fitted in order to accommodate a larger baby. In this manner the useful life of the bath may be increased.
1. A bath having a base and a side wall terminating in a rim, in combination with a head and back rest having one end edge adapted to fit over a portion of the rim, the opposing end edge adapted to lie against the base of the bath.
2. A bath and rest as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base of the bath has the general shape of an isosceles triangle with rounded corners, the rest being adapted to fit over a portion of the rim disposed above the apex of the triangle.
3. A bath and rest as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the rest is provided with an indentation adjacent said one end edge for receiving the head of a baby.
4. A bath and rest as claimed in claim 3, wherein the rest slopes substantially uniformly from said indentation to said opposing end edge.
5. A bath and rest as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the base of the bath is provided with a non-slip surface.
6. A bath and rest as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the rest is provided with a handle section at said one end edge.
7. A bath and rest as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the edges of the rest are shaped to conform with the surfaces of the rim, base and side wall which they abut or lie against when the rest is fitted to the bath.
8. A bath in combination with a head and back rest substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
9. A head and back rest for use in a combination of bath and rest as claimed in any one of the preceding claims.
10. A bath for use in a combination of bath and rest as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8.

A bath having a base and a side wall terminating in a rim, in combination with a laminar, shaped, substantially rigid head and back rest having one end edge adapted to fit over a portion of the rim, the opposing end edge adapted to lie against the base of the bath.
