Abstract

A kit for teaching infants or other children particularly for teaching languages comprises a base sheet 1 covered with a plastics film or material 3 and a plurality of outline elements or images 2 depicting houses, animals or other objects, e.g. geometrical Figs. The outline elements or images are of e.g. felt, with a contact adhesive on the surface of the outline elements or images facing the base sheet which is protected by a release paper 2a which is removed before use. The outline elements or images are removable and replaceable in new positions to pictorially illustrate the use of words without the addition of further adhesive. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in language teaching kits for infants This invention relates to a kit for the teaching of infants or other children.
According to the invention a kit for the teaching of infants or other children comprises a base sheet or board covered with a plastics film or material and a plurality of outline elements or images with a contact adhesive on the back or side or base remote from the image, the position on the sheet or board of the elements being capable of being moved to different places on the base sheet or board and re-adhered in the new position without the addition of further adhesive.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings:- Figure 1 is a view showing the several elements or images of the.device for mounting on a base sheet, Figure 2 is a similar view showing the elements or images mounted on the base sheet, Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 Fig. 2; Figure 4 are plans of other geometrical shapes of elements.
A kit for teaching infants or other children (particularly for the teaching of languages) comprises a base sheet or board covered with a plastics film or a plastics material 3 and a plurality of outline elements 2 or images depiciting houses, animals, trees, geometrical Figs. or other object preferably of felt with a contact adhesive or static 2b on the back or opposite side or base from the image depiciting the house or other object, the contact adhesive being protected by a release paper 2a Fig. 1 which is removed from the elements or images before application of the outline elements 2 or images to the base sheet or board 1, the position on the sheet or board of the elements 2 or images being capable of being moved to different places on the sheet 1 and re-adhered in the new position without the addition of further adhesive.
The elements 2 or images may have a picture of a house, animals, mountains letters or numerals etc, adhered to or drawn on one side and surplus material around the edges may be cut away with scissors before the release paper is removed from the opposite side.
The elements 2 or images may also be in the form of geometrical shapes or figures. Fig.
4 to teach their names and to illustrate their outline and relative sizes, or the elements or images may be parts of a figure to depict branches or the like, for attachment to their appropriate tree etc.
A child will be able to cut out along printed lines, remove the backing paper 2a and stick the cut out shapes 2 onto the plastics sheet or board 1 or a card that is covered by a plastics film. Thus by having various coloured felt elements 2 a picture can be built up, either under the instruction of a teacher or by the child on its own.
By employing the correct combination of adhesive and plastics film, sheet or board 1 the shapes can be pulled off the film and replaced in different positions many times without the adhesive losing its adhesive property to any great extent.
Once the release paper 2a has been removed the cut out shapes can be 'stored' stuck to the plastics film.
By sticking the shapes to paper or card and sticking one shape on top of another a more permanent picture can be made.
The elements or images 2 may be coloured felt or felt-like material, rubber or plastics such as polystyrene which may be chosen for the effects the teacher wishes to convey.
The elements may lie flat on the base sheet or board or stand in relief thereon.
In use, the elements may be in sets to make pictures of landscapes, letters, numerals or geometrical Figs. etc, to teach linguistic detaiis for example in accordance with instructions by the teacher given aurally or from printed stories or descriptions which may be graded according to the ability of the infant or child.
Used as a toy a sense of composition is developed in the infant or child and with several sets of images develop creativity and manipulative ability.
