Abstract

A hydraulic pump comprises a casing 11 provided with a liquid inlet and outlet and a support member 10 for the casing. A ring member 21 is fitted over the casing 11 by passing sectors 21 over flanges 18, and the casing is then abutted against the support member 10 with pins 19 engaging holes (not shown) in the support member to prevent relative rotation. The ring member 12 is then rotated by means of lugs 20 to engage inclined cam surfaces 23 against projections 17 to provide a bayonet-type locking action which draws the casing 11 axially into tight engagement with the support member 10, with sealing means (not shown) gripped between surfaces 15 and 22. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hydraulic pumps The present invention relates to a hydraulic pump particular, one which is suitable for use in domes tic washing machines.
As is known, the pumps of domestic washing machines are of small dimensions so that they can be incorporated into the hydraulic circuit of the was ing machine within the casing of the machine, and are usually formed by a metal support member to which a distributor body of plastics material is fixed, with a suitable sealing means interposed between the distributor body and the support member, the distributor body being provided with connections for the intake and discharge of water.
The mutual fixing as between the distributor and the support member is normally provided by screws or a bayonet-type connection. In the former case, the result is that the construction of the components is complicated, so that subsequent maintenance oper ations are rather difficult and require the use of spe cial tools.
The second form of fixing requires relative rota tion of the distributor and the support member, with the consequence of possibly deforming and damag ing the sealing means, which could impair proper operation of the pump.
According to the present invention, there is pro vided a hydraulic pump comprising a distributor having an inlet and an outlet for liquid, a support means for said distributor, the support means hav ing a plurality of axially extending peripheral ribs which have their ends bent over substantially into an L-shaped configuration, a sealing means capable of being gripped between the support means and the mouth of the distributor, a ring member provided with a plurality of radial sectors capable of co operating with the peripheral ribs on the support means, the ring member being adapted, by means of a bayonet-like action between said sectors and said ribs, to lock the distributor axially against the sup port means by abutting against a plurality of radial sectors provided in association with the mouth of the distributor.
As will be apparent from the following description, the invention can provide a fixing between the dis tributor and the support member which is of simpler, more convenient and efficient type, while however 'preventing any damage to or deformation of the sea ling means.
The invention will be further described by way of on-limitative example with reference to the accom panying drawings, in which the sole Figure is an exploded view of a preferred embodiment of pump according to the present invention.
Referring to the drawing, the illustrated pump comprises a metal support member 10, a distributor 11 of plastics material and a ring member 12 of metal, for fixing the distributor to the support member. The sealing means which is interposed between the distributor 11 and the support member 10 is of known type and is not shown.
The distributor 11 is provided in conventional manner with conduits 13 and 14 forthe intake and discharge of water.
The support member 10 is formed by a hub or boss portion 15 provided with an edge portion 16 which is turned over towards the mouth of the distributor 11 and from which four ribs 17 project axially, the ends of the ribs 17 being bent over into an L-shaped configuration, radially inwardly of the boss portion 15.
The edge of the mouth of the distributor 11 is in turn provided with four radially projecting sectors 18.
Provided on at least one sector 18 is a reference pin 19 to permit correct angular positioning of the distributor 11 relative to the support member 10, which is provided with corresponding holes (not shown in the drawing).
The ring member 12 is formed by an annular portion provided with two external actuating lugs 20 and four radially projecting sectors 21 which are capable of co-operating with the ribs 17 of the support member. The angular arrangement and form of the sectors 21 correspond to the configuration of the sectors 18 of the distributor, whereby in certain positins the ring member 12 can be easily inserted into or removed from the distributor 11.
In addition, the sectors 21 of the ring member 20 and possibly the bent ends of the ribs 17 of the support member 10 are advantageously provided on the interacting surfaces with inclined surface portions 23 in order, in the closure position, to provide an axial thrust force by the boss portion 15 on the sealing means which is interposed between the boss portion 15 and an abutment ridge 22 provided within the distributor 11.
The simplicity and convenience of assembly of the pump will be apparent from the foregoing description. In fact, after sealing means has been fitted into the distributor 11, it is sufficient to fit the ring member 12 onto the distributor 11 by passing the sectors 18 through the sectors 21.
Subsequently, the distributor 11 is set in position on the support member 10 by means of the angular reference pins 19.
Finally, the ring member 12 is rotated by means of the lugs 20, bringing the sectors 21 into engagement with the bent end portions of the ribs 7 of the metal support member.
Therefore, by means of a simple bayonet-type connection, this arrangement provides for effective locking of the distributor 11 to the support member 10, by virtue of the fact that the ring member 12, on one side, butts with the sectors 21 against the ribs 17 and, on the other side, butts with the portions between the sectors 21, against the sectors 18 of the distributor 11.
The advantages of this construction, besides the simplicity of use, are that the sealing means between the support member and the distributor is no longer subjected to wear due to a rotary movement, but is subjected only to axial pressure.
