Abstract

A bracket for connecting tubular frame members at an angle comprises two angled plates 1, 2 each having a base 3 for a screw bolt 12, one of the angled plates 1 having lugs 9, 9' which engage corresponding recesses 5 in the other to prevent relative rotation between the two angled plates 1, 2 about the screw axis as they are drawn together. A spring 11 may surround the bolt 12 between the angled plates 1, 2. In a modification, plate Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), relative rotation between the angled plates is prevented by a yoke (6) which engages similar recesses (5) in both angled plates. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A connecting bracket for angle mounting two sections, both with an inside smooth surface and with applied fins, for making window and door frames and the like The present invention relates to a connecting bracket for anige mounting two sections, both with an inside smooth surface and with applied fins, for making window and door frames and the like.
Presently several connecting brackets are known, which are used for angle joining or connecting hollow sections in general, for making window and door frames and the like.
These known brackets, however, have great practical drawbacks since, for the assembling thereof, they require that holes be formed on the inside surface of the sections to be coupled.
These latter, therefore, may be subjected to corrosion phenomena, said corrosion occurring at the portions therethrough said holes are formed.
Furthermore the locating of said brackets generally requires that pins, spring-biassed pins, screws and the like be used and, sometimes, also special apparatus for correctly adjoining the two sections to be connected.
Furthermore the known types of connecting brackets, are of a comparatively high cost and present great assembling difficulties with consequent losses in the operation time.
The aforesaid practical drawbacks are, on the contrary, eliminated by using the particular connecting bracket according to the present invention.
In fact this connecting bracket is of a very reduced cost, it may be applied in a very simple way, and does not request the preliminary forming of holes through the inside walls of the parts to be connected, and, in addition, it does not request the use of auxiliary apparatus for carrying out the connecting operation, in that the connection operation may be carried out by a mutual rotation action of its component parts which, by inserting into the walls of the sections, cause said sections to automatically mate and block.
More specifically, the connecting bracket according to the invention consists of two angled plates, which are sized and shaped depending on the profile of the two parts to be connected.
Said plates are coupled by means of a tension screw, or the like, and they are inserted with the base portion thereof substantially laying of the same plane, into the ends of the two sections to be connected.
Then, by acting on the tension screw, and by means of a slight rotation, the base portions of said plate are withdrawn, and, hence, said base portions fixedly insert in the walls of the sections thereby locking mutually said sections.
It should be moreover pointed out that the aforesaid plates are so structured as to prevent any mutual transversal rotations.
For example, the structure may comprise recesses effective to engage with corresponding ridges, or side or central fins, or pins and holes, or the like.
These and other characteristics, of functional and constructional nature, of the connecting bracket according to the present invention will become more apparent from the following description with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing illustrating a Dreferred embodiment of the instant bracket, and where: Fig. 1 is a cross-section view of two angled sections, as connected to one another by the bracket according to the invention; Fig. 2 illustrates an exploded perspective view of that same bracket; Fig. 3 is a cross-section view of two angled sections as connected to one another by a bracket according to another embodiment; Fig. 4 is an exploded view illustrating the bracket of the preceding figure.
Referring particularly to the reference numbers.
of the several figures of the accompanying drawing, the instant connecting bracket consists of two angled plates (1) and (2) which, at the adjoining and coupling vertical portions thereof, indicated respectively at (1') and (2'), are provided with a through or threaded hole (3).
Said plates are sized depending on the sections (4) to be connected and have the base thereof of a suitably greater length than the height of the chamber of said sections.
The vertical portions (1') and (2') of those same plates are provided (Fig. 2), at the side ends, with recessed portions (5), effective to house a bridge coupling element (6).
Said recessed portions, practically, define upper projections and lower projections, indicated at (7) and (8) respectively, which fix said bridge element in such a way as to prevent the two plates from mutually transversely rotating.
Alternatively, in the case of sections provided with small depth chambers, the upper projections (7) of said plates may be omitted (Fig.
4) due to size reasons.
In this case, instead of using the bridge element (6), two side fins (9) and (9') are formed in one of the pieces, said fins encompassing the other piece and engaging the base projections (8) of said piece in such a way as to prevent said piece from relatively rotating.
In the base portions of said plates, furthermore, are formed, at the two side ends thereof, semicircular interrupted portions (10) effective to allow for the rod for the possible cremone bolts to pass.
Said plates are connected to one another preferably with the interposition of a spring (11), by a tension screw (12) engaging with the threaded hole (1 3) of the bridge element (6) or of a nut (14)which, by maintaining said plates connected to one another facilitates the insertion thereof in the related sections.
Obviously, if it is deemed necessary, the threaded hole may be directly formed in one of the two plates.
In the practice, upon having located the two plates at the mouth of the sections to be connected, it is exercized a tension or traction action on said tension screw (12), by using a suitable screw-driver, passed through a single hole (1 5) as formed on the outside of said sections.
In this way the vertical portions ( 1 ') and (2') are caused to approach, with a consequent mutual rotation of the bases (1) and (2) which, by their corners (1 6) engage with the inside walls of the two sections.
By continuing the tension action on said tension screw (12), the two plates are caused to rotate, thereby approaching to one another; however, since said plates are fixedly connected to the base of the sections, they more and more fixedly insert into said section walls and accordingly they cause the two faces of the sections to be connected to forceably mate.
From the above description and the observation of the several figures of the accompanying drawings, the great functionality and use practicity characterizing the connection bracket according to the present invention are self-evident.
