Graters.-In a grating-machine, the axle e of the horizontal grating drum is supported, at one end, by the machine casing b and at the other end by a hinged bar g provided with a clip h whereby it is held in position when the machine is in use. The drum is supported on the axle e by cross-bars m, n, the bar m fitting over a collar p having two projections o which engage the bar m, and the bar n having a plain hole for the other end of the axle. Longitudinal movement of the axle is prevented by a flange i and a groove k which engages a catch l, which is released before the bar g is swung clear to permit withdrawal of the drum and axle through opposite ends of the casing. The bottom of the feed shoot r is inclined in a direction at an acute angle to the tangent at the point of main pressure. One or more grooves t are formed in the bottom of the shoot to increase the outlet area for the grated material. A presser s is employed.
