Abstract

A board which can carry an advertisement or other information is adapted to be mounted on the towing hitch of a vehicle when the vehicle is not towing a trailer. The board can have a trailer coupling fixed to it for removable mounting on a ball bracket. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A display board for mounting on a vehicle This invention relates to a display board for mounting on a vehicle.
At present the normal method of advertising on a vehicle is to paint the vehicle appropriately or apply a poster to the vehicle. Both of these methods are to some extent permanent in that they do not permit quick removal of the advertisement and equally quick replacement thereof.
The present invention has been made from a consideration of this difficulty and provides a display board adapted to be removably mounted on the towing hitch of a vehicle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows in perspective a display board mounted on a vehicle.
Referring to the drawing a display board 10 which may be of wood, plastics, metal or a combination thereof has a lightweight trailer coupling (not shown) known per se fitted to the rear thereof. The board can thus be removably mounted on the towing bracket of a vehicle 12.
Atrailer coupling is designed to allow universal movement of the trailer relative to the vehicle. To steady the board 10, therefore, means such as rods or rigid straps extend from the board to an appropn- ate place on the vehicle such as the vehicle bumper.
A preferred form of steadying means comprises a rigid member, of for example, steel fitted behind the ball bracket and extending to one side thereof, said member being fitted with a known form of antiluce locking device.
The dimensions of the display board can be 2'6" high by 3'6" wide and it should be mounted sufficiently low to ensure a clear vision through the car rearwindow. It is useful to have the board small enough to fit into the vehicle boot and, of course, it must not obscure the vehicle rear lights or number plates, unless these are fitted to the board and an electrical supply can be obtained from the electrical socket that is fitted on the vehicle to supply electrical connections to a caravan or trailer lighting.
The display board can be illuminated at night from the same electrical power source and this provides a much more striking advertising message. Lights can be built into the board and fed from the electrical socket. Strip lighting could be used.
The invention is not restricted to the above described embodiments and many variations can be made.
1. A display board adapted to be removably mounted on the towing hitch of a vehicle.
2. A display board as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a lightweight trailer coupling is fixed to the board for mounting said board on a vehicle towing hitch.
3. A display board as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein means for steadying the board are provided, said steadying means being adapted to extend between the board and a vehicle on which the board is mounted.
4. A display board as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the steadying means comprises a rigid member comprising an antiluce locking device.
5. A display board as claimed in any preceding claim wherein means are provided for illuminating the board.
6. A display board substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing.
