Abstract

A method of manufacturing a brush seal Fig. 5 for effecting a seal ion between relatively moving parts. Brush elements 23 Figs. 3 and 4 are first made by assembling bundles of bristle elements 12 in holding tubes 21 therefor, the brush elements 23 then being mounted for instance by an adhesive on a carrier 24, so as to lie at the required disposition. The free end portions of the bristle elements are affixed to brush seal root members 26 and the bristle elements are cut off at 28 at the required position between the root members 26 and the carrier 24; the carrier 24 and holding tubes 21-which may be reused-are removed to leave the brush seal. A final machining of the brush seal, such as of bristles, may be performed. <IMAGE>
