Abstract

A control mechanism for art ink layer on a duplicator cylinder employs a sensing roller 8 mounted for movement along a path which extends both peripherally and radially of the cylinder where the ink is to be measured and thus the drag by the ink pulls the roller 8 to an equilibrium position. The position of roller 8 thus is a measure of the amount of ink present. The pivoting support 9 for the sensing roller may engage a switch 12, 13 when an extreme position is attained and this provides an "enough ink" signal. The sensing roller may additionally be subject to a basing selective manually by the operator and/or responsive to the speed of rotation of the duplicator to control ink layer thickness. The sensing roller can be able to skew so that a switch at one end of the duplicator cylinder may be tripped before one at the other to provide a control responsive to local thickness of the layer. Several different rollers 8 which between them cover the entire axial extent of the cylinder and thus can control the application of ink locally may be provided. <IMAGE>
