Abstract
A blade aerofoil having longitudinal cooling channels narrowed at one end is manufactured using the lost wax, or other disposable pattern process, with ceramic cores 22 of reduced cross section 25 at one end. The mould is produced by injecting wax around metal rods in a first die, removing the metal rods, inserting the cores 22 in the passages vacated by the rods and placing the solidified wax 20 in a second larger die 28, and injecting more wax beneath the solidified wax in a space 29 to lock the cores in position. Blanking off of the one end of the channels, e.g. by brazing is unnecessary. <IMAGE>
