Abstract

The invention concerns a resilient device inserted between the thigh member and the stabilised knee unit of a prosthetic leg whereby the amputee is able to walk with a more natural and less stiff gait. The device comprises upper and lower frame members 13, 14 for attachment to the thigh and stabilised knee units respectively, the frame members being pivotally connected together at their forward end 15 and flexibly separated at their rearward end by restraint means 16 whereby in use and with the for stabilised knee unit locked the restraint means will contract under the application of load to the leg and extend upon removal of that load. In an alternative embodiment the restraint means is a wedge-shaped resilient block sandwiched between the thigh and knee units. <IMAGE>
