Abstract

A fibrous material such as a pressed felt has at one or more surfaces fibres arranged to lie generally parallel to each other only, so giving the surface an increased coefficient of friction in one direction whereby light articles, e.g. electronic components, put on the surface tend to move less. The parallel orientation of surface fibres may be achieved by sanding, abrading or brushing a fabric to remove the surface fibres not orientated in a particular direction. The material may be used as a substrate, conveyor belt or even in brake pads. <IMAGE>
