Abstract

An electronic shelf label (ESL) 10 comprises a display unit 400 displaying product information, a power monitoring unit 200 for determining an abnormality in a power supply unit 100, e.g. a battery, and a processor unit 300 for generating a result of the determination of an abnormality. The power monitoring unit is adapted to monitor a driving signal for the display unit and may include an integrator (where the signal is a waveform) and a comparator. The ESL is part of a system including a server and abnormalities are communicated, e.g. by a wired or wireless network 600, to the server.
