Abstract

A method of charging an electric vehicle 10 comprises the steps of: providing at the vehicle a raisable support mast 22, 24, the support mast including charging cable retaining means for retaining at least a portion of a charging cable along its length at the support mast; introducing the charging cable to the support mast such that the cable is retained by the cable retaining means; and raising the support mast so that at least the portion of the charging cable is at an elevated height. Use of the support mast may allow at least a part of the path of the charging cable to the vehicle to be well above head height.
