Abstract

A method comprises uploading a media file (such as an image, music/audio file or video) from a user terminal 16 to a remote server 10; analysing the uploaded media file, associating metadata with the media file based on the analysis; generating a reduced-data copy (such as a video or image of poorer quality or lower resolution); and storing the media file, associated metadata and the reduced-data copy. This method allows different users to locate, access and edit files without having to transfer to full-data copy. Another method comprises receiving a project file (in or converted to canonical form), the project file comprising links to media files; and compiling a list of the media files to which the project files contains a link. A further method comprises receiving a request to copy one or more files from a first computer to a second computer, and only copying those files that are not already stored on the second computer to avoid redundant or duplicate copying.
