Abstract

A pipe fitting comprising an open-ended sleeve portion 2 for fitting over the end of a pipe 1 is disclosed, the sleeve portion 2 being provided with a circumferentially extending tapered groove 5 on its inner surface. The tapered groove 5 has a depth which increases in a direction away from the end of the sleeve portion. A pipe gripping element 3 (e.g. a metal ring) is located in the groove and one or more circumferential housing accommodates sealing elements (e.g. O-rings) 6. When a pipe 1 is inserted into the fitting the metal ring engages a groove in the pipe to secure it in the fitting. The fitting may further comprise access holes (8) for insertion of a removal tool which moves the metal spring ring to the far end of the tapered groove. A joint including such a fitting is also claimed, along with a method of dissembling the joint.
