Abstract

A switch 33 is actuated when a shunt 25, 29 is deflected to expose the switch to flux from a magnet 31. The switch 33 is also operated by a magnet 37 in a telephone handset 3 when this is cradled on the base 1. When the handset is removed from the base the switch signals the off- hook condition. A button 21 by pivoting the shunt 25, 29 allows an on-hook condition to be signalled without the need to replace the handset. <IMAGE>
