Abstract

The present invention is concerned with apparatus for determining the denomination of a coin 2 which apparatus comprises a channel 1 defining a coin passage, at least two photosensitive means A, C, E each adapted to sense a different dimension of a coin and which provide an output which varies as a function of the size of the coin, light means B, D, F associated with said photosensitive means, responsive means associated with each photosensitive means and adapted to respond to variations in the output of said photosensitive means, and logic means to receive the output of said responsive means to provide an output signal when the dimensions sensed by said phototransistors are compatible with the coin denomination to be sensed. <IMAGE>
