Abstract
A trailer having a vane type hydraulic drive motor (14) arranged to be fed by a pump (26) on a towing vehicle is fitted with a tow bar (60) coupled to a piston (42) arranged to pressurize the vent line (34) of the motor in response to relative movement between the towing vehicle (10) and the trailer (12) so as to disable the motor and permit freewheeling of the trailer when the motor is not being fed with hydraulic fluid by the towing vehicle. The piston is centred by springs (70, 80) connected to a pivoted lever (75) which is connected by a Bowden cable (90, 92) to a reversing valve (22), the lever also being manually operable to prime the system when the trailer is to be manoeuvred otherwise than by a towing vehicle. A removable stop (84) prevents the overrun mode of operation of the trailer from reversing the direction of hydraulic fluid flow to the motor (14). <IMAGE>
